Excerpt from Minutes of the 1st-36th Annual Session of the Pilot Mountain Baptist Association, 1886-1921 We deem it self-evident that every Baptist church should have a Sunday school, for there is no better way to bring up our children in the way they should go, and for developing our churches it is a great factor. We find from reading the church letters that a large majority of the churches within the bounds of this Association have flourishing Sunday schools, with 1229 scholars and teachers, with an average attendance of about 54, and contributions amounting to which is good, as far as it goes, but there are many waste places in the Association which should be supplied with Baptist Sunday schools, and we urge the brethren to occupy them at once.
