Abandoned mines, while they may be of historical interest, often pose safety problems, detract esthetically from the landscape, & damage the environment through the discharge of toxic materials & sediments. The goal of this report is to provide a general understanding of the extent to which abandoned mines are likely to be found throughout the thousands of acres of National Forest Service lands.
