Mimi Cerniglia's autobiography begins with the introduction of the two people who will become the parents of her two sisters and her. You will find out why furniture manufacturing in the Piedmont area of North Carolina was important in the author's life and the state of North Carolina. Depression era modes of transportation and communication come alive from her excellent descriptions. Due to a family incident religion's decline and eventual rejection unfolds slowly. An annual family event helps the reader learn about the homestead of a southern family who had owned slaves. Terms used in local government reminds the reader that North Carolina was one of the original thirteen colonies and was settled from east to west. Public school education in her college town was so important the citizens paid extra tax for city schools. The end of World War II brought peace time production of everything. College and an education career as well as marriage led to the birth of a son and a move to Florida. More education in North Carolina and a return to Florida for the son's education was interspersed with a new marriage. Following traveling and house building in North Carolina came death and a move back to Florida to be near her successful son and twin grandsons. Her senior years of reading, writing and golf stopped due to illness. Recovery from illness and pursuit of academic endeavors concludes the book.

"Forced into an early retirement at the age of sixty-something, Mimi Malloy enjoys the simple things in life: True Blue cigarettes, her apartment in the heart of Quincy, and an evening with Frank Sinatra on the stereo and a Manhattan in her hand. Born into an Irish Catholic brood of seven, with six daughters of her own, she knows that life isn't just a bowl of cherries--that, sometimes, it's the pits. And when an MRI reveals that Mimi's brain is filled with black spots--areas of atrophy, her doctor says--the prospect living out her days in an "Old Timer's facility" starts to look like more than just an idea at the top of her eldest daughter's to-do list. Yet as Mimi prepares to take a stand, she stumbles upon an old pendant, and her memory starts to return--specifically, memories of a shockingly painful childhood, her long-lost sister Fagan, and the wicked stepmother she swore to forget. By turns funny, wise, and whimsical, and always deeply moving, Mimi Malloy At Last is an unforgettable story of second chances and the family bonds that break us and remake us. Above all, it's a poignant reminder that it's never too late for love--and that one can always come of age a second time"--

Mimi, an animal-loving girl, and her loyal three-legged dog, Maty, set out together to rescue any animal that needs help. It’s a crazy start to the third grade when the new girl, Emma, brings her pet parakeet, C. C., to school . . . only to have him fly out the window and disappear! Mimi and Maty jump into action, showing the whole third grade what rescuing animals is all about. Keeping track of all the clues in their trusty animal rescue notebook, Mimi and Maty’s latest adventure includes an amazing tree house, a harrowing ordeal of getting feathers out of Icky Vicky’s hair, and a surprise that Mimi and Maty could never have imagined! Inspired by the real-life Mimi Ausland (founder of freekibble.com) and her special three-legged dog, Maty, this is the third book in the Mimi and Maty series (the first book was the recipient of the 2012 Bookies Bravo Award given to books with positive impact by Milk + Bookies). Mimi’s dedication to helping animals—and her meticulous detective skills—are sure to inspire young animal lovers and budding private eyes of all ages! This book is for readers ages 6 to 9 and is especially perfect for those young readers who love animals and/or who own a rescued pet from a shelter or humane society. This is the third book in the series. The book promotes friendship, good citizenship, helping others (people and animals), and believing in oneself. The voice is young and modern and speaks especially to young girls, but can be enjoyed by any young reader. Pictures break up the minimal text, making this a great book for reluctant readers. Sky Pony Press, with our Good Books, Racehorse and Arcade imprints, is proud to publish a broad range of books for young readers—picture books for small children, chapter books, books for middle grade readers, and novels for young adults. Our list includes bestsellers for children who love to play Minecraft; stories told with LEGO bricks; books that teach lessons about tolerance, patience, and the environment, and much more. While not every title we publish becomes a New York Times bestseller or a national bestseller, we are committed to books on subjects that are sometimes overlooked and to authors whose work might not otherwise find a home.
