DOWNLOAD EBOOKCalculations of microwave thermal emission to space from Rayleigh attenuating clouds are given. The emission and attenuation from ice, water, and two-component ice-water spheres are calculated for tropical, arctic, and standard atmospheres with stratiform clouds and thunderstorm liquid water distributions. The effect of clouds on temperature weighting functions is considered. Cumulative distributions of measured attenuation at 15.25, 31.65, and 52.50 GHz are presented. The Rayleigh attenuation from two-component spheres is discussed in detail.
