This is the first book-length study in English on Vittorio Sereni (1913-83), a major figure in Italian 20th-century poetry. It argues that a key innovation of Sereni's poetry is the way in which it reworks the boundaries of poetic space to construct a lyric 'I' radically repositioned in the textual universe with respect to its predecessors.

The Metamorphoses or Golden Ass of Apuleius (ca. 170 CE) is a Latin novel written by a native of Madauros in Roman North Africa, roughly equal to modern Tunisia together with parts of Libya and Algeria. Apuleius’ novel is based on the model of a lost Greek novel; it narrates the adventures of a Greek character with a Roman name who spends the bulk of the novel transformed into an animal, traveling from Greece to Rome only to end his adventures in the capital city of the empire as a priest of the Egyptian goddess Isis. Apuleius’ Florida and Apology deal more explicitly with the African provenance and character of their author while also demonstrating his complex interaction with Greek, Roman, and local cultures. Apuleius’ philosophical works raise other questions about Greek vs. African and Roman cultural identity. Apuleius in Africa addresses the problem of this intricate complex of different identities and its connection to Apuleius’ literary production. It especially emphasizes Apuleius’ African heritage, a heritage that has for the most part been either downplayed or even deplored by previous scholarship. The contributors include philologists, historians, and experts in material culture; among them are some of the most respected scholars in their fields. The chapters give due attention to all elements of Apuleius’ oeuvre, and break new ground both on the interpretation of Apuleius’ literary production and on the culture of the Roman Empire in the second century. The volume also includes a modern, sub-Saharan contribution in which "Africa" mainly means Mediterranean Africa.

Sono affrontati, nei vari interventi, aspetti dell’opera di Tiziano, Jan Brueghel, Annibale Carracci, Filippo Napoletano, Nicolas Poussin e Claude Lorrain. Genere considerato “minore” nel corso del Cinquecento italiano dai teorici dell’arte - e quasi specializzazione cui erano relegati i pittori del nord giunti in Italia attraversando le Alpi – il paesaggio conosce tra la fine del Cinquecento e l’inizio del Seicento il suo successo nei palazzi dei pontefici e nelle quadrerie aristocratiche. A Roma si incrociano le differenti tradizioni: i paesaggi archeologici di Polidoro da Caravaggio e di Raffaello e gli sfondi più naturalistici e poetici dei dipinti di Giorgione e Tiziano (che alcuni grandi collezionisti romani avevano provveduto a importare nelle loro residenze). Anche la tradizione veneziana passa da Roma e viene vivificata dalla presenza di Girolamo Muziano (con gli affreschi per la villa di Ippolito d’Este a Tivoli), mentre Jan Brueghel e Paul Bril vi concentranogran parte della loro vicenda artistica. A completare il volume, l’analisi di due personalità straordinarie che innalzarono la pittura di paesaggio ad un livello mai raggiunto prima: Nicolas Poussin e Claude Lorrain."--
The images of atrocity, either analog or digital, are always the trace of an encounter between the gaze of a photographer or a cameraman and a human being sufferingfrom the painful effects of man-made violence. The archive images resulting from such an encounter raise some inevitable questions: who took them and for what purpose? Is it possible to retrace the process that led to these shots? What do they hide behind what the eye can see? This special issue of Cinéma & Cie will not only focus on the production of such images, but also on their persistence on the synchronic level (in the media: newspapers, magazines, cinema, television, the Internet, museums...) as well as on the diachronic level (across time: mutation, re-editing, inversion...). From propaganda to counter-propaganda, from purposes of memory to artistic aims, the circulation of these images proves that repetition always implies difference.
This bibliography on Sren Kierkegaard carries on the work of Jens Himmelstrup's international bibliography (1962). It collates everything written about Kierkegaard - books, contributions to edited collections, and journals - and also features an appendix of primary text editions and translations. Discussion notes, reviews, etc., are catalogued according to the items they refer to. The bibliography contains more than 5,600 primary entries and is a testament to the expanding worldwide interest in the Danish philosopher. It also remedies the deeply-felt need for a collected overview of the extensive literature on Kierkegaard.
