DOWNLOAD EBOOKPrinciples of Protein Nutrition of Ruminants is a cutting-edge examination of the current state of knowledge in this important field. It explores current techniques and concepts, pointing out limitations to these techniques and introducing ideas and criticisms that will be useful in developing new paradigms for research. The scope of the book covers the whole spectrum of investigation from grazing behavior of wild ruminants to cellular and molecular phenomena. Unique aspects of the book include its emphasis on the energy status of the animal as the primary factor in affecting amino acid supply and its discussion of the nature of nitrogenous compounds in feedstuffs.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKFarm animals are grown mainly to provide high quality proteins for human use, in the form of meat, milk, eggs, skin and wool. These products are usually formed from lower-quality proteins in complex processes that involve losses through digestion, absorption, and transport. Because proteins are the most expensive major component of the animal diet per unit of weight, the efficiency with which they are used is of great importance biologically and economically. This book begins with a description of the dietary proteins and methods for their measurement. This is followed by detailed accounts of their digestion in ruminants, pigs, poultry and fish. The physiological basis of adsorption of amino acids is discussed in detail. This is followed by reviews of the processes of protein synthesis and degradation and the hormonal and energetic regulation of these processes. Written by a group of experienced scientists, this is the first book in which all of these topics are discussed in detail at a fundamental level. For advanced students and research workers in animal science and agriculture.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKThis book contains key contributions to the Xth International Symposium on Ruminant Physiology. Proceedings from past ISRP symposia have had a major influence on research and teaching in animal science over the years. Without a doubt the peer-reviewed chapters in this book, written by some of the best scientists in the field, will live up to this fine tradition. The chapters cover a wide range of topics spanning from digestion and absorption to metabolism, reproduction and lactation. Advancement of knowledge within important issues related to rumen fermentation, absorption mechanisms and splanchnic metabolism is treated in nine chapters. A number of chapters address the relationship between nutrition and gene expression illustrating important progress in scientific knowledge that can be obtained by applying the molecular biology methods to the field. Several chapters address the effects of nutrition on immunology and cover topics related to the health and welfare of production animals. In keeping with the increased attention on the relationship between food and human health, the book contains two important chapters on this topic.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKAmino acids (AAs) are not only building blocks of protein, but are also signalling molecules as well as regulators of gene expression and the protein phosphorylation cascade. Additionally, AAs are key precursors for syntheses of hormones and low-molecular weight nitrogenous substances with each having enormous biological importance. For example, physiological concentrations of AA metabolites (e.g., nitric oxide, polyamines, glutathione, taurine, thyroid hormones, and serotonin) are required for cell functions. Growing evidence shows that humans and animals have dietary requirements for all proteinogenic AAs. Mammals, birds and fish also have species- and age-dependent needs for some AA-related substances. However, elevated levels of other products (e.g., ammonia, homocysteine, H2S, and asymmetric dimethylarginine) are pathogenic factors for neurological disorders, oxidative stress, and cardiovascular disease. Thus, optimal amounts of AAs and their ratios in diets and circulation are crucial for whole body homeostasis and health. Adequate provision of one or a mixture of functional AAs or metabolites may be beneficial for ameliorating health problems at various stages of the life cycle (e.g., fetal growth restriction, neonatal morbidity and mortality, weaning-associated intestinal dysfunction and wasting syndrome, obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, the metabolic syndrome, and infertility). Dietary supplementation of these nutrients can also optimize the efficiency of metabolic transformations to enhance muscle growth, milk production, and athletic performance, while preventing excess fat deposition and reducing adiposity. Therefore, functional AAs hold great promise in improving the growth, health and well-being of individuals.
