Today’s Hispanic generation does not always handle the Spanish language as its vernacular. Many a time, major confusion occurs within Hispanic families because of the lack of bilingual skills. In the spiritist community, this language barrier has all too often caused potential mediums to either continue being handicapped in their development or choose another path that may lead to spiritual pitfalls. Additionally, the English-speaking community is fertile ground for new mediums from this cultural group. Many of the alleged translations of prayer books, particularly those of Allan Kardec, are a sham. You cannot translate them literally word for word. It must be translated in context of the cultural idea being presented. In this, whoever attempted the translations has slapped the public in the face with a horrid, nonsensical excuse for print. At some time, there will have to be a concerted effort to translate these works officially on paper. Up to now, it is done word of mouth, which leaves a lot to be desired when attending a misa (séance). Words evolve in definition over the centuries, as well as from one path in life to another. The word “cave” is a case in point. For mediums, the word originates as “boveda” (BO-vay-dah). The boveda consists of a grouping of glass goblets representing the spiritual quadrant of each medium. Boveda can also mean “hidden treasure box.” Indeed, this spiritual cave is a sanctuary from which our entities whisper their messages to us.

Excerpt from The Altar at Home: Prayers for the Family and the Closet Whatever diversity of Opinion may exist as to the preference between written and unwritten prayers in the public worship of the Church, ancient and extensive usage has assigned a great value to prepared forms of devotion for the Family and the Closet. Even those who can readily express their thanksgivings and requests in their own words oftentimes gratefully resort to this help. Amid the cares, fatigues and varying moods, of daily life, the well-chosen and hallowed words of a Manual of Prayer assist in composing their spirit, and suggest many topics of devout reflection, which might not otherwise have been presented to their minds. This book was inspired by a really bad dream; most people would call it a nightmare. There was a young lady being raped by a man that she trusted, and he also had planned for his friends to get in on the action. That story was titled The Flattering Tongue due to how our flesh can easily be manipulated by words causing us to stumble not only physically, but emotionally, mentally, and spiritually. There are so many different types of situations that happen with or without being in a relationship, that in the end, we feel insecure, unworthy of love, helpless, and lost, wanting to give up after the bad thoughts of feeling that God has forsaken us. We sometimes ask, "Why did you allow this to happen to me, God? I thought I was your child, your daughter! I'm tired of hurting, I'm tired of being weak, and I'm tired of my past staring me back in the face!"In some of these stories, it shows the realities of life which includes hurt caused by others, hurt caused by poor choices, and how to make better choices to prevent as much pain and grief in ones' life. We have moments when we are weak, whether we know The Word or not, we are fleshly beings surrounded by temptation, spiritual wickedness, and natural disasters. We cannot and will not be perfect on the earth no matter how much we desire to be or how much we work at it. Once we fall in the flesh, there are so many consequences that we must face due to our actions. Whether we are the guilty party or the innocent, every action causes a scar in our life that we aren't always able to cover up or one we can't seem to recover from. We try so hard to cover up the guilt, the shame, and the embarrassment instead of seeking the One True and Living God that is able to, with his all seeing eye, find the broken part of us, restore us whole, and then give us a new start. He shows us that daily, even if we go through bad times, loss, rejection, and other life circumstances that reflect failure or pain, He's with us, He's helping us, and He will see us through. God shows us, with Him, all things are possible, we can make it through to the other side, and that No weapon formed against us shall prosper. We are all overcomers by our faith, and we need not be afraid. This book is to remind us that if we all just leave all of our worries, pain, un-forgiveness, and the names of the ones that hurt us at the altar, we can walk away freely without feeling weighed down. Let's begin a new chapter together as we lay it all out at the altar.

Palo Mayombe: The Garden of Blood and Bones is an initiate's account of this much maligned cult whose central nigromantic mystery is the prenda, the cauldron containing the human skull or bones, reanimated by living spirit. Nicholaj de Mattos Frisvold traces the roots of Palo Mayombe back to Kongolese sorcery, the warrior and leopard societies, and the impact of the Portugese Mission. The original African faith is carried in chains across the abysmal waters of Kalunga and it flowers in Cuba as a New World Creole religion and cult. Yet Palo Mayombe can only be truly understood in the light of a highly developed African cosmology. In drawing parallels with the ancient Greek practice of necromancy, and the grimoire tradition, Frisvold also considers the Western tradition, showing what we have lost in our denial of the dead and the cult of the ancestors. The magical head of Palo Mayombe in its three-legged iron cauldron has implications for understanding our own histories, whether Odin, Baphomet, Bran, John the Baptist or Orpheus. The Misa Espiritual suggests one way in which we can reforge that vital connection and resurrect both our dead and ourselves. The Garden of Blood and Bones gives explicit detail of the workings of Palo Mayombe for good and ill, the method of divination, the herbs, animals, trees and plants, powders, baths and waters, the songs and chants. It presents a complete living system one which embraces both the arts of healing and resurrection, and those that remove life. This study confronts the sinister and violent aspects of the cult, but rather than purveying lurid sensationalism expresses the deep dignity and integrity of its nature; it is intended to serve as a guide for practising Paleros and those seeking initiation. With access to rare materials, pamphlets, booklets and unpublished field notes, this is the most comprehensive study of Palo Mayombe to date. Santeros and practitioners of Vodou will also find much to ponder within these pages.

"Espiritismo is the Spanish word for spiritism or spiritualism. In the US and Canada, spiritualism's primary focus was on communication between the living and the dead, but it evolved differently in Latin America. Beginning in the early 20th century, Puerto Rican immigrants introduced Espiritismo to US spiritual landscape, profoundly effecting the way modern Western magic was practiced"--
