The authors report the first observation of two Cabibbo-suppressed decay modes,?{sub c} →?+?−?+ and?{sub c}+ →?−?+?+. They observe 56 ± 13 over a background of 21, and 23 ± 7 over a background of 12 events, respectively, for the signals. The data were accumulated using the SELEX spectrometer during the 1996-1997 fixed target run at Fermilab, chiefly from a 600 GeV/c?− beam. The branching ratios of the decays relative to the Cabibbo-favored?{sub c}+ →?−?+?+ are measured to be B(?{sub c}+ →?+?−?+)/B(?{sub c}+ →?−?+?+) = 0.50 ± 0.20, and B(?{sub c}+ →?−?+?+)/B(?{sub c}+ →?−?+?+) = 0.23 ± 0.11, respectively. They also report branching ratios for the same decay modes of the?{sub c}+ relative to?{sub c}+ → pK−?+.

The authors report on the inclusive branching fractions of B[sup -] and of [bar B][sup 0] mesons decaying to D[sup 0]X, [bar D][sup 0]X, D[sup +]X, D[sup -]X, D[sub s][sup +]X, D[sub s][sup -]X, [Lambda][sub c][sup +]X, [bar [Lambda]][sub c][sup -]X, based on a sample of 88.9 million B[bar B] events recorded with the BABAR detector at the [Upsilon](4S) resonance. Events are selected by completely reconstructing one B and searching for a reconstructed charmed particle in the rest of the event. The authors measure the number of charmed and of anit-charmed particles per B decay and derive the total charm yield per B[sup -] decay, n[sub c][sup -] = 1.313 [+-] 0.037 [+-] 0.037 [+-] 0.062[sub -0.043][sup +0.063], and per [bar B][sup 0] decay, n[sub c][sup 0] = 1.276 [+-] 0.062 [+-] 0.058[sub -0.046][sup +0.066] where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second is systematic, and the third reflects the charm branching-fraction uncertainties.

A measurement of [Beta]([Lambda][sub c][sup +] [yields] pK[sup -] [pi][sup +]) is presented based on data collected with the BaBar detector at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center. Branching fraction measurements represent a large portion of what is known about short-lived particles, the strong force that binds them, and the weak force that causes them to decay. While the majority of branching fraction measurements are done as ratios between two decay modes, it is the absolute measurements of a few particular decay modes that set the scale for these relative measurements. The [Lambda][sub c][sup +] particle is one of the four weakly decaying hadrons into which more than 90% of the known heavy quark hadrons will eventually decay. Thus, an absolute measurement of the branching fraction for [Lambda][sub c][sup +] [yields] pK[sup -][pi][sup +] is important for many studies of the heavy quark sector, from spectroscopy to B meson decays. The number of produced [Lambda][sub c][sup +]'s is inferred from the number of events reconstructed with an antiproton and an accompanying D meson. The final result of [Beta]([Lambda][sub c][sup +] [yields] pK[sup -] [pi][sup +]) = [6.12 [+-] 0.31(stat.) [+-] 0.42(syst.)]% represents more than a two-fold improvement in precision over the world average. The dominant source of systematic uncertainty is the irreducible background of [Xi][sub c] baryons.
