DOWNLOAD EBOOKMeasurements of the differential and double-differential Drell-Yan cross sections are presented using an integrated luminosity of 4.5(4.8) inverse femtobarns in the dimuon (dielectron) channel of proton-proton collision data recorded with the CMS detector at the LHC at sqrt{s} = 7 TeV. The measured inclusive cross section in the Z-peak region (60-120 GeV) is \sigma(\ell \ell) = 986.4 +/- 0.6 (stat.) +/- 5.9 (exp. syst.) +/- 21.7 (th. syst.) +/- 21.7 (lum.) pb for the combination of the dimuon and dielectron channels. Differential cross sections $d\sigma/dm$ for the dimuon, dielectron, and combined channels are measured in the mass range 15 to 1500 GeV and corrected to the full phase space. Results are also presented for the measurement of the double-differential cross section d2̂\sigma/dm d.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKThe total and differential cross sections for inclusive production of $\mathrm{B}^{+}$ hadrons are measured as a function of the $\mathrm{B}^{+}$ transverse momentum $p_{\mathrm{T}}^\mathrm{B}$ and rapidity $y^\mathrm{B}$ in pp collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV, using data collected by the CMS experiment that correspond to an integrated luminosity of 49.4 pb$^{-1}$. The measurement uses the exclusive decay channel $\mathrm{B}^{+} \to \mathrm{J}/\psi \mathrm{K}^{+}$, with $\mathrm{J}/\psi$ mesons that decay to a pair of muons. The results show a reasonable agreement with theoretical calculations within the uncertainties.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKMeasurements are reported of the normalized differential cross sections for top quark pair production with respect to four kinematic event variables: the missing transverse energy; the scalar sum of the jet transverse momentum (pT); the scalar sum of the pT of all objects in the event; and the pT of leptonically decaying W bosons from top quark decays. The data sample, collected using the CMS detector at the LHC, consists of 5.0 fb–1 of proton-proton collisions at √s = 7 TeV and 19.7 fb–1 at √s = 8 TeV. Top quark pair events containing one electron or muon are selected. The results are presented after correcting for detector effects to allow direct comparison with theoretical predictions. In conclusion, no significant deviations from the predictions of several standard model event simulation generators are observed.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKOur measurements are reported of differential cross sections for the production of a W boson, which decays into a muon and a neutrino, in association with jets, as a function of several variables, including the transverse momenta (pT) and pseudorapidities of the four leading jets, the scalar sum of jet transverse momenta (HT), and the difference in azimuthal angle between the directions of each jet and the muon. Furthermore, the data sample of pp collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 7 TeV was collected with the CMS detector at the LHC and corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 5.0 fb-1. The measured cross sections are compared to predictions from Monte Carlo generators, MADGRAPH + PYTHIAand SHERPA, and to next-to-leading-order calculations from BLACKHAT + SHERPA. The differential cross sections are found to be in agreement with the predictions, apart from the pT distributions of the leading jets at high pT values, the distributions of the HT at high-HT and low jet multiplicity, and the distribution of the difference in azimuthal angle between the leading jet and the muon at low values.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKIntegrated fiducial cross sections for the production of four leptons via the H → 4l decays (l = e, [mu]) are measured in pp collisions at $ \sqrt{s}=7 $ and 8TeV. Measurements are performed with data corresponding to integrated luminosities of 5.1 fb$^{-1}$ at 7TeV, and 19.7 fb$^{-1}$ at 8 TeV, collected with the CMS experiment at the LHC. Differential cross sections are measured using the 8 TeV data, and are determined as functions of the transverse momentum and rapidity of the four-lepton system, accompanying jet multiplicity, transverse momentum of the leading jet, and difference in rapidity between the Higgs boson candidate and the leading jet. A measurement of the Z → 4l cross section, and its ratio to the H → 4l cross section is also performed. All cross sections are measured within a fiducial phase space defined by the requirements on lepton kinematics and event topology. Here, the integrated H → 4l fiducial cross section is measured to be 0.56$_{-0.44}^{+0.67}$ (stat)$_{-0.06}^{+0.21}$ (syst) fb at 7 TeV, and 1.11$_{-0.35}^{+0.41}$ (stat)$_{-0.10}^{+0.14}$ (syst) fb at 8 TeV. The measurements are found to be compatible with theoretical calculations based on the standard model.
