This volume provides the first comprehensive analysis and chronology of the earliest known stone sculptures from the north Indian city of Mathura, dating prior to the famous Kushan period. The sheer wealth and dizzying diversity of Indian sculpture are celebrated in this second volume of the catalogue raisonne of the Los Angeles County Museum's collection. Nearly two hundred sculptures produced during eleven centuries are described.
