Excerpt from A Master Plan for Chalmette National Historical Park, Louisiana Preparations, though, had not gone well for the British commander. A mishap in the freshly-dug canal across the Villere Plantation slowed the transfer of boats from the bayous to the river. Thus during the main battle they were not able to enfilade Jackson's line. Nor did the assault force start well. One column was to hit the America left, near the cypress sw& the other was to attack the American right, near the river bank. Unfortunately for the British cause, the lead regiment of the right column failed to pick up the ladders and cane bundles needed to cross the deepened canal and scale the mud barricade. The attack, however, was too far along to turn back. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
