Excerpt from Manual and Historical Sketch of the First Congregational Church, Marblehead, Mass., 1684 to 1901 Robert Knight was released from paying his town rates during his life for his workmanship in the meeting house in building the gallery. In 1681 one shilling was paid for an hour glass. The record does not tell when the meeting house was removed from the Burial Hill to what is now Franklin Street. It was probably removed be tween the years 1697 and 1701. It was enlarged at different times, and used there until the erection of the present Stone Church in 1824.
