And this Opinion has doubtless originated partly with persons who have not understood his writings, and partly with those who have felt interested in opposing their pro gress; and having occasionally found its way into some public journals, and in a few instances into Biographical Dictionaries, it has at length obtained very general cre dense, and is now received by a multitude of people who have never taken the trouble to examine its validity, or perhaps have never had the opportunity and means of doing so.
