All the world knows there is a wait difference between Arabic and the languages of Europe; and if the Italian tranllator was more traé'r in forming his words up to a near imitation of the Eafi'ern proprieties of fpeech, no doubt 'but int partial men will rather cenfure it as a fault, than cry it up for an excellency, fince nothing founds well in any language, which is not delivered in the natural idiom. Every thing ought to be written in-as familiar a fiyle as we difcourfe, efpecially letters, which are but a proxy method of converiing at a diliance; and he that tranllates out of one language into another ought to aim chiefly at this, that he be fore to retain the original fenfe, and render it fmooth and eafy to the reader.
