Letters to Asher is a personal and poignant collection of a grandfather's advice, counsel and wisdom to his grandson, who is on the daunting journey to becoming a man. The letters encourage him to consider and define early decisions critical to successfully transitioning from childhood to adulthood. Key topics include personal integrity, spirituality, education, sexuality, appearance, relationships, controlled substances, marriage and health.Letters to Asher challenges teens and young adults, men and women, to face life-defining choices, to examine why they make them, to establish their own values and to assume ownership of them. This rational approach empowers the critical thinking steps necessary to understanding the wisdom of making choices in advance rather than on impulse.Letters to Asher also serves as a powerful tool to foster meaningful conversations with mentors and parents, grandparents, teachers, counselors, coaches, youth leaders, pastors and anyone investing in the lives of future generations.Letters to Asher reflects a Christian worldview.

“At last, I finally understand the alphabet! I also love this book: secret Beatles knowledge from one of the closest insiders.” —Steve Martin Peter Asher met the Beatles in the spring of 1963, the start of a lifelong association with the band and its members. He had a front-row seat as they elevated pop music into an art form, and he was present at the creation of some of the most iconic music of our times. Asher is also a talented musician in his own right, with a great ear for what was new and fresh. He was asked by Paul McCartney to help start Apple Records; the first artist Asher discovered and signed up was a young American singer-songwriter named James Taylor. Before long he would be not only managing and producing Taylor but also working with Linda Ronstadt, Neil Diamond, Robin Williams, Joni Mitchell, and Cher, among others. The Beatles from A to Zed grows out of his popular radio program “From Me to You” on SiriusXM’s The Beatles Channel, where he shares memories and insights about the Fab Four and their music. Here he weaves his reflections into a whimsical alphabetical journey that focuses not only on songs whose titles start with each letter, but also on recurrent themes in the Beatles’ music, the instruments they played, the innovations they pioneered, the artists who influenced them, the key people in their lives, and the cultural events of the time. Few can match Peter Asher for his fresh and personal perspective on the Beatles. And no one is a more congenial and entertaining guide to their music.

“Dear Ava, I loved your book.” —Award-winning actress Emma Watson For fans of Kathleen Glasgow and Amber Smith, Ava Dellaira writes about grief, love, and family with a haunting and often heartbreaking beauty in this emotionally stirring, critically acclaimed debut novel, Love Letters to the Dead. It begins as an assignment for English class: Write a letter to a dead person. Laurel chooses Kurt Cobain because her sister, May, loved him. And he died young, just like May did. Soon, Laurel has a notebook full of letters to people like Janis Joplin, Amy Winehouse, Amelia Earhart, Heath Ledger, and more—though she never gives a single one of them to her teacher. She writes about starting high school, navigating new friendships, falling in love for the first time, learning to live with her splintering family. And, finally, about the abuse she suffered while May was supposed to be looking out for her. Only then, once Laurel has written down the truth about what happened to herself, can she truly begin to accept what happened to May. And only when Laurel has begun to see her sister as the person she was—lovely and amazing and deeply flawed—can she begin to discover her own path.

This book is a translation of David Asher’s text New Material by Schopenhauer and about Schopenhauer. Readers who are interested in Schopenhauer the man (and his philosophy) can see, from the 24 letters written to David Asher, clear evidence of the philosopher’s struggle to gain recognition in a Germany where Fichte, Schelling, and Hegel – and their disciples – were the dominant forces. The letters show Schopenhauer, after 30 years of being ignored by the universities in Germany, coming into his own. He is enormously appreciative of the dedicated service of Asher, who seeks out and relays to him all that he can find about the resonance of his work in Germany and abroad. Asher himself, as a Jew, was largely ignored after Schopenhauer’s death. In the book by Lindner and Frauenstädt, Schopenhauer: By him and about him, Asher was dismissively referred to as the “little apostle”, whereas in fact he was the main “apostle”. Apart from the letters he received from Schopenhauer, Asher also includes the essay he published about Schopenhauer’s theory of music, along with a musicologist’s sober assessment of its value. Another essay on the Jewish thinker Salomon Ibn-Gebirol indicates Asher’s conviction that Schopenhauer’s thought is not radically removed from that of Judaism (of a particular kind). A further essay – on individual character – indicates the affinity of Schopenhauer’s thought to that of Kant. The final section of the book gathers material that indicates the reception of Schopenhauer’s philosophy in France, England and Germany.
