Il l’adapte aux Espaces européen de l’enseignement supérieur et de la recherche, à la politique européenne de sécurité et défense, ainsi qu’au programme Erasmus. Colonel en retraite depuis 2010, il entame une thèse en sciences politiques, sur la défense européenne, qui lui vaut de devenir le conseiller Défense du Premier ministre Elio Di Rupo. Depuis le 7 septembre 2015, il est docteur en sciences politiques (ULB) et en sciences sociales et militaires (ERM).
