DOWNLOAD EBOOKExcerpt from Legislative and Documentary History of the Banks of the United States, From the Time of Establishing the Bank of North America, 1781, to October 1834: With Notes and Comments In presenting the following pages to the public, the compiler has deemed it proper to explain the plan of the work, and its object. The question of a national bank, and of the re-chartering of the present Bank of the United States, having more or less agitated the community for the last three or four years, it is the object of this work to lay before the people such a statement of facts as the compiler conceives will enable them to form a correct opinion upon the subject. For the purpose of effecting that object, the compiler has embodied all the public documents considered to be anywise essential, in attaining a thorough knowledge of the national banking operations of the country, from the year 1781 to the present time.
