This book provides an overview of the techniques central to lattice quantum chromodynamics, including modern developments. The book has four chapters. The first chapter explains the formulation of quarks and gluons on a Euclidean lattice. The second chapter introduces Monte Carlo methods and details the numerical algorithms to simulate lattice gauge fields. Chapter three explains the mathematical and numerical techniques needed to study quark fields and the computation of quark propagators. The fourth chapter is devoted to the physical observables constructed from lattice fields and explains how to measure them in simulations. The book is aimed at enabling graduate students who are new to the field to carry out explicitly the first steps and prepare them for research in lattice QCD.

This book discusses the ways in which the algebras in a locally finite quasivariety determine its lattice of subquasivarieties. The book starts with a clear and comprehensive presentation of the basic structure theory of quasivariety lattices, and then develops new methods and algorithms for their analysis. Particular attention is paid to the role of quasicritical algebras. The methods are illustrated by applying them to quasivarieties of abelian groups, modular lattices, unary algebras and pure relational structures. An appendix gives an overview of the theory of quasivarieties. Extensive references to the literature are provided throughout.

TASI is the premier U.S. summer school in theoretical elementary particle physics. This volume is a collection of lectures given at TASI 1994. These lectures provide an overview of many basic topics in the field, as well as specific discussions of the theme of this year's course, which involved the frontiers of the present Standard Model. The volume should be extremely useful to students and young researchers as it provides pedagogical presentations of important topics.

This book is the result of a broad-based and in-depth study of high energy physics commissioned by the Executive Committee of the Division of Particles and Fields of the American Physical Society. This year-long study was initiated in the early 1994, in the wake of the cancellation of the SSC, and is meant to complement the report of the Drell HEPAP subpanel, charged with providing a vision for the future of the field. The DPF study of high energy physics was organized on the basis of the working groups, each led by a number of co-conveners chosen among established leaders in the various subspecialties in the field. These conveners, in turn, organized their working groups by inviting other active workers in the discipline to participate and gathered further input from the community by holding a variety of specialized meetings and workshops. This book contains the final reports of the 11 working groups assembled for the study, along with an extended overview and executive summary by the editors.

This text presents the mathematical concepts of Grassmann variables and the method of supersymmetry to a broad audience of physicists interested in applying these tools to disordered and critical systems, as well as related topics in statistical physics. Based on many courses and seminars held by the author, one of the pioneers in this field, the reader is given a systematic and tutorial introduction to the subject matter. The algebra and analysis of Grassmann variables is presented in part I. The mathematics of these variables is applied to a random matrix model, path integrals for fermions, dimer models and the Ising model in two dimensions. Supermathematics - the use of commuting and anticommuting variables on an equal footing - is the subject of part II. The properties of supervectors and supermatrices, which contain both commuting and Grassmann components, are treated in great detail, including the derivation of integral theorems. In part III, supersymmetric physical models are considered. While supersymmetry was first introduced in elementary particle physics as exact symmetry between bosons and fermions, the formal introduction of anticommuting spacetime components, can be extended to problems of statistical physics, and, since it connects states with equal energies, has also found its way into quantum mechanics. Several models are considered in the applications, after which the representation of the random matrix model by the nonlinear sigma-model, the determination of the density of states and the level correlation are derived. Eventually, the mobility edge behavior is discussed and a short account of the ten symmetry classes of disorder, two-dimensional disordered models, and superbosonization is given.

This conference covered recent developments, both experimental and theoretical, in the study of hadron spectroscopy. It focused primarily on the spectroscopy, properties, theories and models of: light-quark mesons, heavy-quark mesons and baryons, exotic states (glueballs and hybrid mesons), and future facilities for their continued study.Special features to note include: New results were presented on the ƒ0(1500) meson from the Crystal Barrel, OBELIX and GAMS collaborations, indicating that this state is now a clear candidate for the lowest 0++ glueball; The existence of the ξ(2230) was confirmed by new data from BES; A session on future facilities; New results on charmed mesons and on hadrons with b quarks were also presented.
