Organized by wave features rather than pattern names, this atlas helps guide the reader to an EEG interpretation even when the waveform is unfamiliar. The first section takes the reader through the process of characterizing EEG waves by their features. The second section organizes EEG patterns by their features, so provides EEG waveform differential diagnoses. The third section is organized alphabetically by pattern name with each pattern described in a way that allows the reader to distinguish it from similarly appearing patterns. Examples of the patterns also are provided.

This is a concise yet thorough reference to C# 3.0 programming as implemented in Microsoft's Visual Studio 2008. C# 3.0 in a Nutshell gets right to the point, covering the essentials of language syntax and usage as well as the parts of the .NET base class libraries you need to build working applications. But unlike earlier editions, this book is now organized entirely around concepts and use cases, providing greater depth and readability. C# 3.0 introduces the most significant enhancements yet to the programming language, and C# 3.0 in a Nutshell delves deep into the subject while assuming minimal prior knowledge of C#-making it accessible to anyone with a reasonable background in programming. In addition to the language, the book covers the .NET CLR and the core Framework assemblies, along with the unified querying syntax called Language Integrated Query (LINQ), which bridges the traditional divide between programs and their data sources. Free of clutter and long introductions, this book provides a map of C# 3.0 knowledge in a succinct and unified style: Opening chapters concentrate purely on C#, starting with the basics of syntax, types and variables, and finishing with advanced topics such as unsafe code and preprocessor directives Later chapters cover the core .NET 3.5 Framework, including such topics as LINQ, XML, collections, I/O and networking, memory management, reflection, attributes, security, threading, application domains and native interoperability Designed as a handbook for daily use, C# 3.0 in a Nutshell is an ideal companion to any of the vast array of books that focus on an applied technology such as WPF, ASP.NET, or WCF. The areas of the language and .NET Framework that such books omit, this one covers in detail.

Social network analysis is used widely in the social and behavioral sciences, as well as in economics, marketing, and industrial engineering. The social network perspective focuses on relationships among social entities and is an important addition to standard social and behavioral research, which is primarily concerned with attributes of the social units. Social Network Analysis: Methods and Applications reviews and discusses methods for the analysis of social networks with a focus on applications of these methods to many substantive examples. It is a reference book that can be used by those who want a comprehensive review of network methods, or by researchers who have gathered network data and want to find the most appropriate method by which to analyze it. It is also intended for use as a textbook as it is the first book to provide comprehensive coverage of the methodology and applications of the field.

If you’re a developer with core Java SE skills, this hands-on book takes you through the language changes in Java 8 triggered by the addition of lambda expressions. You’ll learn through code examples, exercises, and fluid explanations how these anonymous functions will help you write simple, clean, library-level code that solves business problems. Lambda expressions are a fairly simple change to Java, and the first part of the book shows you how to use them properly. Later chapters show you how lambda functions help you improve performance with parallelism, write simpler concurrent code, and model your domain more accurately, including building better DSLs. Use exercises in each chapter to help you master lambda expressions in Java 8 quickly Explore streams, advanced collections, and other Java 8 library improvements Leverage multicore CPUs and improve performance with data parallelism Use techniques to “lambdify” your existing codebase or library code Learn practical solutions for lambda expression unit testing and debugging Implement SOLID principles of object-oriented programming with lambdas Write concurrent applications that efficiently perform message passing and non-blocking I/O

The book covers essential topics, such as functional interfaces and type inference, and the key differences between lambdas and closures. You will learn about the background to functional programming and lambdas, before moving on to understanding the basic syntax of lambdas and what differentiates these anonymous functions from standard anonymous classes. Lastly, you'll learn how to invoke lambdas and look at the bytecode generated. After reading this book, you'll understand lambdas in depth, their background, syntax, implementation details, and how and when to use them. You'll also have a clear knowledge of the difference between functions and classes, and why that's relevant to lambdas. This knowledge will enable you to appreciate the improvements to type inference that drive a lot of the new features in modern Java, and will increase your understanding of method references and scoping. Style and approach This book is a deep dive into one of the core new features of the Java language – Lambdas. It covers them in great details, making sure that you fully understand how lambdas work, and how they can be put to use in your own programs.

This is a book that handles the non-alcoholic fatty liver disease from the bio-statistical point of view . The statistical method used is Continuous Time Markov Chains ( CTMCs) utilizing the MLE and quasi-Newton method to estimates the transition rate matrix , once obtained , the transition probability matrix can be estimated by exponentiation of this rate matrix. The transition probability matrix can also be obtained by solving forward Kolmogorov differential equations which yields more stable solution than the matrix exponentiation. The rate probability matrix can then be used to estimate the number of patients in each stage of the disease process as well as the life expectancy in each stage. These statistical indices are of great importance for the health policy makers and medical insurance to allocate the resources for investigating and treating patients in each stage. These statistical indexes can also be used in longitudinal studies to follow up the rate of progression of each stage in response to medical treatment conducted by pharmaceutical companies. The (CTMCs) handle the disease in the general simplest form which is health-disease-death Multi-states model , in addition to the expanded model form with 9 states that represent the evolution of the disease over time. There is also a chapter that relates the high risk covariates such as type 2 diabetes, obesity, hypercholesterolemia, and hypertension, to the rate of transition among states .

Modelling and Mechanics of Carbon-based Nanostructured Materials sets out the principles of applied mathematical modeling in the topical area of nanotechnology. It is purposely designed to be self-contained, giving readers all the necessary modeling principles required for working with nanostructures. The unique physical properties observed at the nanoscale are often counterintuitive, sometimes astounding researchers and thus driving numerous investigations into their special properties and potential applications. Typically, existing research has been conducted through experimental studies and molecular dynamics simulations. This book goes beyond that to provide new avenues for study and review. - Explores how modeling and mechanical principles are applied to better understand the behavior of carbon nanomaterials - Clearly explains important models, such as the Lennard-Jones potential, in a carbon nanomaterials context - Includes worked examples and exercises to help readers reinforce what they have read
