Our contemporary societies let us believe that we are free—it is a delusion. We are still shackled in our chains, even in the West. Chains that we take for wings: we believe ourselves to be in a democracy, we think that work allows us to emancipate ourselves, and we imagine that new technologies facilitate our lives. This is our daily “Newspeak.” But oligarchy reigns. People are mired in consumerism and liberalism. Security control is more and more prevalent, while medical progress in procreation brings us closer to an “industrial fabrication of human beings.” In this context, we must question and rethink the conditions of a true human liberation. This is the work that Denis Collin has undertaken. Basing himself on numerous historical and philosophical references, he redefines the concepts and opens up new political, economic, social and metaphysical perspectives. The setting up of “partial associations” at all levels of political organization, the end of wage labor in favor of the cooperation of producers, the realization of man through his creative activity, the guarantee of the primacy of subjectivity in the face of scientism, are among the weapons intended to break our chains. Denis Collin is an associate professor of philosophy and holds a doctorate in literature and the humanities. His publications include, Le Cauchemar de Marx (Marx’s Nightmare) (Max Milo, 2009), Revive la République (Revive the Republic) (Armand Colin, 2005) and Morale et Justice sociale (Morality and Social Justice) (Seuil, 2001).

Marginality is often seen as a reflection of division, in which there is an unequal relationship of economic and political power between two extremes. In this way, it is a common thing to find oppositional couples, like North/South, Rich/Poor, Homogenous/Heterogenous, Centre/Periphery, Inclusion/Exclusion, Developed/Underdeveloped, and New/Old, in much of the literature dealing with marginality. These oppositions come about out of a socially and politically unbalanced society which is organised according to the differentiation of individuals in a hierarchical, exclusionary fashion. In this book there are 25 chapters, written by 36 academics from 27 universities located in 14 countries and in 4 continents on this fascinating subject matter.

In this book, leading international thinkers take up the demanding challenge to rethink our understanding of social justice at work and our means for achieving it – at a time when global forces are tearing the familiar fabric of our working lives and the laws regulating them. When fabric is torn we can see deeply into it, understand its structural weaknesses, and imagine alterations in the name of resilience and sustainability. Seizing that opportunity, the authoritative commentators examine the lessons revealed by the pandemic and other global shocks for our ideas about justice at work, and how to advance that cause in the world as we now find it. The chapters deliver critical re-assessments of our goals, explore our new challenges, and creatively re-imagine trajectories for progress on two global fronts - via international institutions and by a myriad of other transnational techniques. These forward-looking essays are in honour of Francis Maupain, whose international career and scholarly writing are inspiring models for those who, in a changing world, seize opportunities for creativity in the pursuit of global justice at work.

INNOVATION IN ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY SET Coordinated by Dimitri Uzunidis Systemic innovation is based on business networks and new business models in a global economy integrated by flows of knowledge, capital, and goods. The authors of this book consider the theory that innovations act as systems based on multi-actor interactions. Innovation is contextualized to demonstrate in what capacity a company or an entrepreneur can innovate. The book details the management of scientific, technical and cognitive resources, the relationships between R&D partners, the creativity and the rules that allow a market and a company to innovate. This contextualization, associated with entrepreneurial strategy, leads to systemic innovation. This book analyzes some key sectors of the economy that are knowledge-intensive and rapidly changing: transport and communications, defense, information technology, artificial intelligence, and the environment.
