The Magical Land of Oz Summary of this story: A strong tornado takes a young girl named Dorothy from her home in Kansas and drops her in Oz, which is a strange and magical land. "The Magical Land of Oz" is the story of Dorothy's adventures when she gets to Oz. As she goes through this new land, she meets a group of friendly people called the Munchkins. These people, along with a scarecrow, a tin man, and a lion who isn't afraid of anything, decide to go with her to see the great Wizard of Oz, who they think will grant their wishes and make them come true. Along the way, Dorothy and her friends must deal with several problems, such as a deep and dangerous river, a field of deadly flowers, and a bad witch who wants to stop them from getting to the Wizard. Even though they are going through hard times, they continue to be honest with each other and help each other as they work together to use their different skills to solve each problem. When they finally get to the Emerald City and are given a chance to talk to the famous Wizard of Oz, they are surprised. They're very surprised to find out that he's not who he seems to be. On the other hand, he has the power to give Dorothy's friends what they want, like giving the dummy brains, the tin man a heart, and the scared lion courage. But when Dorothy asks the Wizard to help her find her way back to Kansas, he doesn't seem to know what to do. But a nice witch named Glinda comes up to them and tells them that Dorothy had always had the power to go home. All she had to do was use the golden slippers she had been wearing since she got to Oz. Dorothy and her friends are all shocked by this. They attack the house of the wicked witch as a group, killing the witch's servants as they move toward the royal room. They get to the place where the Witch is waiting with a wicked grin on her face. But Dorothy and her friends' bravery and determination make it impossible for the Witch to beat them. They fight bravely and use their own strengths to beat the Witch's tricks and traps. In the end, Dorothy is the one who gives the Witch the final blow, which causes her to scream in failure as she falls to the ground. The Witch has been defeated, so Dorothy and her friends can go back to the Emerald City. There, they say goodbye to their friends and get ready to go back home. When Dorothy closes her eyes and clicks her heels together, she feels a huge surge of energy rush through her body. When she finally opens her eyes, she is shocked to see that she is back in her own bedroom in Kansas. She is so happy to be back in her familiar surroundings. Even though she will never forget what she went through in Oz, she is sure that she has a new sense of purpose and meaning in her life and is ready to face any challenges that come her way. The Journey Starts: There was once a little girl whose name was Dorothy. She lived with her Aunt Em and Uncle Henry and other cousins on a small farm in Kansas. Dorothy was a young girl who was kind and interested in the world around her. She wanted to learn as much as she could about it. One day, a black cloud filled the sky over Kansas, and a strong wind started to blow. Dorothy was a young girl who lived with her Aunt Em and Uncle Henry on a small farm. As she watched the storm clouds gather on the horizon, she started to feel uneasy. She ran straight to the windows and doors and locked them as quickly as she could so that the worst of the storm wouldn't get in. As she looked out the window, however, she saw something that made her heartbeat faster suddenly. A huge cyclone was coming closer and spinning with an amazing amount of force. Dorothy watched in fear as it got closer and closer, threatening to hurt everyone in its way and rip it apart. Dorothy felt like she was being lifted into the air when suddenly, the house started shaking very hard. She tried hard to hold on to a nearby bedpost as the house was lifted higher and higher into the air, but she was able to. Dorothy was tossed around by the wind for what seemed like hours, and she felt like a leaf caught in a storm. She didn't know where she was going or what would happen to her, but she knew she had to hold on for dear life and cross her fingers that everything would be okay. After what seemed like an age, the winds finally started to calm down, and the house started to fall. Dorothy looked out the window and saw that Kansas was no longer visible. She didn't know much about the outside world; it was strange and full of colors and things she had never seen before. She walked out of the house and took in her surroundings. She was shocked and amazed by what she saw. The grass under her feet was a bright shade of green, and the sky was a deep shade of blue. In the distance, the leaves on the trees were different colors, such as red, gold, and purple. It was a wonderful sight. Dorothy knew she was in Oz when she took a good look around and saw that it was a strange and magical place. She knew about the stories about Oz, but she had never thought that the land might really exist. As she looked around at the amazing things in front of her, she realized that she had been taken to a different world. As she turned her head to see what was going on around her, she saw that she was surrounded by happy, tiny beings. They were called Munchkins, and when Dorothy got to Oz, they welcomed her with open arms. When Dorothy arrived in Oz, the leader of the gang, a small man with a round face and a pointy hat, said, "Welcome to Oz, Dorothy!" Dorothy smiled at the Munchkins and said, "We are overjoyed to have you with us today." She also said that their presence made her feel warm and safe. She had never felt so welcome and accepted everywhere she went before. Dorothy's adventures in Oz led her to find many strange and wonderful animals, plants, and things. She met a scarecrow who needed a brain, a tin man who needed a heart, and a scared lion who needed guts. Everyone in this story needed something. They thought that if they went to see the great Wizard of Oz, he could make their wishes come true, so they set out together to find him. Along the way, they ran into a lot of trouble and resistance, but they didn't give up or lose sight of their goal. Dorothy noticed that as they went through Oz, she was getting stronger and surer of herself, and this trend kept going. She learned more about how important company is, how important patience is, and how strong it is to believe in one's own skills. In the end, they made it to the Emerald City, which people thought was where the famous Wizard of Oz lived. They were given the chance to talk to the Wizard, who was a strong and scary person. But as they talked with the Wizard longer, they realized he wasn't who he seemed to be. The Wizard was just an ordinary person who used sleight of hand to make it look like he was a powerful magician.

"The Wizard is a lovable humbug, an artful salesman who gives his customers something to believe in, even if the thing is known to be pretend. Playing a role, he presents Dorothy's friends with talismans of brains, heart and courage and takes pride in showing them how he accomplished his illusions. Why do Dorothy's friends put their faith in the Wizard's abilities to grant their requests even after he has shown them that he has only been putting on a show? Perhaps his virtuoso performances inspire their own, and ours too. His humbug guides the philosophy of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz and the theatrical style of the first Oz musical, the extravaganza of 1902, with implications for "American" performance and participation"--

The Wonderful Wizard of Oz has been enchanting audiences since it was first published in 1900. While many fans may know the work only by its movie counterpart, the world L. Frank Baum built within the books is much more elaborate. Since the more recent publication of Gregory Maguire's Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West and the Broadway play of the same name, fans have had a rekindled interest in Baum's original works from which the retellings draw heavily. Anyone interested in fantasy, magic, and silliness is sure to love this American classic.L. Frank Baum (1856-1919) is one of the most recognized and beloved children's authors, though he is often recognized for only one of his many stories. The Wonderful Wizard of Oz is easily his most popular work, though Baum actually wrote 13 sequels in Oz. His writings consist of practically every genre: Baum wrote 55 novels in total, 82 short stories, more than 200 poems, as well as scripts, and other miscellaneous writings. Interestingly, many of his non-Oz works were published under pseudonyms. Baum made many attempts to bring his work to stage and screen, but the most successful productions were not made until after his death.
