The theme of responsibility towards our companion animals emanates from this informative book. Lack of accountability by cat guardians and misdirected animal control methods has allowed a serious problem in our society to brew. My concern for this problem caused me to start a no-kill shelter. I have personally rescued nearly 600 cats and counseled thousands of people regarding cat care topics. As a cat-connection specialist, I offered solutions to what guardians thought were un-resolvable problems. Cat guardians will find remedies for many cat issues. Find your missing cat, bathe your cat properly, select the proper post for a cat, train your cat to use a scratching post, are just a few topics discussed. Anyone with the desire to start a shelter has all the necessary information right here. Do not be without this resource on your bookshelf! Infuse your mind with years of knowledge with moments of reading.

In search of insight into late Victorian ideas about animals and the animal rights movement, Rod Preece explores animal sensibility in the work of George Bernard Shaw. Shaw’s reformist thought – particularly what Preece calls inclusive justice, which aimed to eliminate the suffering of both humans and animals – emerges in relation to that of fellow reformers such as Edward Carpenter, Annie Besant, and Henry Salt. This fascinating account of the characters and crusades that shaped Shaw’s philosophy sheds new light not only on modernist thought but also on the relationship between historical socialism and the ethical treatment of animals.

A revolutionary new theory and call to action on animal rights, ethics, and law from the renowned philosopher Martha C. Nussbaum. Animals are in trouble all over the world. Whether through the cruelties of the factory meat industry, poaching and game hunting, habitat destruction, or neglect of the companion animals that people purport to love, animals suffer injustice and horrors at our hands every day. The world needs an ethical awakening, a consciousness-raising movement of international proportions. In Justice for Animals, one of the world’s most influential philosophers and humanists Martha C. Nussbaum provides a revolutionary approach to animal rights, ethics, and law. From dolphins to crows, elephants to octopuses, Nussbaum examines the entire animal kingdom, showcasing the lives of animals with wonder, awe, and compassion to understand how we can create a world in which human beings are truly friends of animals, not exploiters or users. All animals should have a shot at flourishing in their own way. Humans have a collective duty to face and solve animal harm. An urgent call to action and a manual for change, Nussbaum’s groundbreaking theory directs politics and law to help us meet our ethical responsibilities as no book has done before.

The Nine Lives Of Cats is a fantasy story aimed at young and grown up adults too. The book is of the humour cum thriller genre. The book evolves around the theme that cats have nine lives and the protagonist of the story is Jimbo a young cat whose mistress is Meera. She prays to God to do something for Jimbo so that he can survive in his own and her prayers are answered because an angel as messenger of God comes to them with a device called a Cat Life Device CLD for short. The device can be used by Jimbo only and with it lives can be extracted from cats and stored in the CLD, similarly lives stored within the CLD can be transferred back to cats. Transfers and extractions of lives can be done only if the concerned cat gives his consent to the procedure, in this regard the device can detect consents which though explicitly given but the concerned cat did not mean it from its heart the CLD will abort the process. This protects cats who have been intimidated to give their consent and this feature leads to numerous amusing incidents. Initially all cats think that the CLD is a hoax a scam to make money but slowly he gets the confidence of people and there are humorous interchanges with a cat who is a gossip columnist and also with a cat who is a punk. Then there is the question of legislating permission to carry on the CLD business and this process wends and weaves its way through the senate with numerous amusing incidents. While waiting for the trading license there is an urgent need for a CLD intervention on a precariously ill young cat; as it is illegal to use the device in Catland they decide to subvert the law by using it in Dogland where Catland laws do not apply and because of this numerous thrilling incidents happen. While Jimbo is in Dogland he gets more clients for the CLD. Finally the trade license comes through and Jimbo can commence his CLD banking business in Catland. While commencing business Jimbo encounters several problems such as collecting on loans made and there is also a run against the bank; then there are marriages the CLD way where the husband and wife exchange their lives, here they are warned that one of them may be left hanging at the altar if the love of any one of them is not genuine. Then there is the question of using the CLD on lions and tigers all belonging to the cat family. Finally the story ends when the CLD gets lost and how it is recovered using the services of ace cat detective Merlock Jomes!
