This workbook is for beginners and makes learning Japanese fun. It has been created specifically for young adults whose native language is English. Each lesson consists of three sections: Vocabulary, Grammar, and Practice. Emphasis is placed on contemporary Japanese including frequently used Manga and Anime phrases. Japanese for Teens can be used as the primary teaching text or as a supplement to other texts. Initially, students are expected to learn the basic 46 hiragana characters before starting lesson one. Associations to help them learn the hiragana are included. Students are given a chance to learn contemporary vocabulary at the start of each lesson. Furthermore, students have fun with the material by creating Manga stories in each lesson. Because students are encouraged to write in the book we do not recommend buying used versions. Note: Although part of cover may appear blurry in Lulu's preview, the actual printed product has no issues.

A book for comic lovers and Japanophiles of all ages, Diary of a Tokyo Teen presents a unique look at modern-day Japan through a young woman's eyes. Born in Tokyo to a Japanese mother and an American father in 1997, Christine Mari Inzer spent her early years in Japan and relocated to the United States in 2003. The summer before she turned sixteen, she returned to Tokyo, making a solo journey to get reacquainted with her birthplace. Through illustrations, photos, and musings, Inzer documented her journey. In Diary of a Tokyo Teen, Inzer explores the cutting-edge fashions of Tokyo's trendy Harajuku district, eats the best sushi of her life at the renowned Tsukiji fish market, and hunts down geisha in the ancient city of Kyoto. As she shares the trials and pleasures of travel from one end of a trip to the other, Inzer introduces the host of interesting characters she meets and offers a unique—and often hilarious—look at a fascinating country and an engaging tale of one girl rediscovering her roots. **Listed as a 2016 Great Graphic Novel for Teens by the Young Adult Library Services Association**

Upon arrival in Japan, one inevitably undergoes culture shock. The Japanese way of life is so unique that, to some, it appears incomprehensible. Foreigners, or gaijins as they are commonly referred to, are initially disoriented and mystified. I have written this travel guide to help teenagers discover Japan and decipher its inhabitants customs and habits. The guide may be equally valuble for adults. It covers everything from DOs and DONTs to What to Visit and Where to Eat . It is essentially a compilation of my experience living in Japan. I provide my readers with valuable advice, exceptional addresses and useful suggestions.Although the first few days in Japan are unsettling, one rapidly learns to appreciate the country and its superb culture.?éê?üô?ü¥µùѵ£¼??ü

This aptly named fiction anthology—tomo means “friend” in Japanese—is a true labor of friendship to benefit teens in Japan whose lives were upended by the violent earthquake and tsunami of March 11, 2011. Authors from Japan and around the world have contributed works of fiction set in or related to Japan. Young adult English-language readers will be able to connect with their Japanese counterparts through stories of contemporary Japanese teens, ninja and yokai teens, folklore teens, mixed-heritage teens, and non-Japanese teens who call Japan home. Tales of friendship, mystery, love, ghosts, magic, science fiction, and history will propel readers to Japan past and present and to Japanese universes abroad. Edited and with a foreword by Holly Thompson, Tomo contributing authors include Naoko Awa, Deni Bechard, Jennifer Fumiko Cahill, Liza Dalby, Megumi Fujino, Andrew Fukuda, Alan Gratz, Katrina Toshiko Grigg-Saito, Suzanne Kamata, Sachiko Kashiwaba, Kelly Luce, Shogo Oketani and Leza Lowitz, Ryusuke Saito, Graham Salisbury, Fumio Takano, and Wendy Tokunaga, among others. A bestselling motivational book based on the Japanese concept of finding happiness in everyday life, now for young readers! The Japanese people say everybody has an "Ikigai," or a reason to live. Some people have found their Ikigai and are aware of it. Other people have it inside, but have not found it yet. This concept, Ikigai, is one of the secrets for a long, active, and happy life.Héctor García and Francesc Miralles visited Ogimi, a town on the north of Okinawa in Japan that has the highest longevity in the world. They spent weeks living with the residents of Ogimi and interviewing dozens of the villagers. These people all had lived to be more than a hundred years old, and they were all in great physical (and spiritual) shape. After their trip, Héctor and Francesc wrote a book examining the centennials' keys to an optimistic and vital existence. What do the oldest people in the world eat, what do they work on, how do they connect with others, and-the best-kept secret-how do they find their Ikigai? Ikigai is what gives them satisfaction and happiness, and brings real meaning to their lives. The result was Ikigai: The Japanese Secret to a Long and Happy Life, an international bestseller which has been translated into over 49 languages. With the book, García and Miralles made it their mission to help its readers find their own Ikigai and discover many keys of Japanese philosophy to a healthy body, mind, and spirit. They have now adapted their bestselling book for young readers. Young adults can find their Ikigai too!

This book illustrates how young Japanese males perform their gender identity and sexuality. It compromises a comprehensive theoretical and practical reading of sexuality education as well as a comparative analysis that brings about a global perspective of the current issues concerning disease, sex, gender, and education for young people. An important resource for Japan specialists, this study will also be valuable for scholars in sociology, education, gender studies, and psychology.
