This stunning selection of color views, dating from the period 1953-1980, includes most of the vessels operated during this period by the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company and The Ramsey Steamship Company. Passenger boats and freighters are seen at ports on the island and on the mainland. There is comprehensive coverage of the Peel, Ramsey and Port Erin lines operated by the Isle of Man Railway with some outstanding views taken during the 1950s, together with excellent portraits of most of the locomotives, as well carriages, vans, wagons, lorries, stations, staff and signal boxes. Also covered are Douglas Station and its environs, St John's junction and the Sunday 'specials' to Braddan. Many of the rich mix of bus types operated by the railway subsidiary, Isle of Man Road Services, are seen in a variety of locations. Included are some of the vehicles delivered just before and shortly after the Second World War. There are good views of the fascinating Ramsey Pier Tramway and its unusual rolling stock, as well as rare scenes taken as early as 1953 on the Groudle Glen Railway. For anyone who loves the Isle of Man and its wealth of vintage transport, this book provides a remarkable trip down memory lane and a colorful reminder of some of its lost glories. The book is dedicated to the memory of John McCann who took brilliant color views on the island starting in 1953.

Larger format than our Wheels Around series of books and also including the history of shipping and aviation around the island this book makes excellent use of one of the best collections of Isle of Man postcards and photographs extant. The photographs included can only be described as sumptuous. There are 18 or so pages on the island s railways; the Steam Railway, the Manx Railway & the Snaefell Mountain Railway. About twelve pages are devoted to tramways, with civil and military aviation, featured on the next 20 pages (incidentally, my dad flew my mum to the IOM during the war - they met at RAF Heathhall in Dumfries - so that's one copy of the book spoken for already). This is followed by 30 pages of shipping photographs and information including lifeboats, wrecks, coastal steamers and pleasure boats. On the road we have fourteen pages of buses and 20 pages of cars & carriage from early motor charabancs to motor racing. Last but definitely not least is motorcycle racing - as befits an island so steeped in same. If you are interested in the Isle of Man in general or just some unique transport history you will definitely want this book.

The Isle of Man is a self-governing British Crown Dependency located in the Irish Sea between England, Scotland, and Ireland. It covers an area of 221 square miles and has a population of approximately 84,000 people. The island has a rich history and culture, with evidence of settlement dating back to the Neolithic period. It has its own government, laws, and currency, but it is also a member of the British Isles custom union and the European Union for the purpose of trade in goods. The economy of the Isle of Man is largely based on offshore finance, with many international businesses choosing to establish a presence on the island due to its favorable tax laws and business-friendly environment. The Isle of Man is also known for its stunning natural beauty, with rugged coastline, rolling hills, and sandy beaches. It has a temperate climate, with mild winters and cool summers, making it an ideal destination for outdoor enthusiasts. The island is popular for activities such as hiking, cycling, and water sports, and it also hosts a range of annual events and festivals that attract visitors from around the world. Despite its small size, the Isle of Man has a unique identity and a thriving community, and it offers a wealth of opportunities for those looking to explore or make a home on the island.
