The monotheism preached by Islam is called ‘Tauheed’, which says that ‘there is no God but Allah’ and He is the Creator and Sustainer of the worlds. The Islamic way of life has been framed on the basis of one principle i.e. ‘there is no God but Allah’ so that this monotheism is reflected in worship, thought, conduct, activities etc. of its followers and Al-Qur’an is the Holy Book where this way of life has been described. The Islamic monotheism is uncompromising and absolute and forbids attributing even the slightest divinity on any object, nor does it allow unification of the Creator and creation under any circumstances. This book compiled by Dr. A. Rahman entitled Islamic Monotheism (Tauheed) is pleasantly readable because he has elucidated many difficult concepts of Tauheed contained in the Holy Qur’an. The book is divided into seven chapters. While the first two chapters are introductory, the author goes deeperinto the faith of monotheism in the third and fourth chapters and seeks to assert monotheism by discussing ‘Shirk’ i.e. commission of the utmost blasphemy of associating creation with the Creator. In the fourth chapter he has effectively dealt with even such common human weaknesses as belief in astrology, talisman, spells of charm, etc. The fifth chapter deals with Mysticism and Sufism in the context of monotheism. Thisnis an area that has been probed widely and in depth by the b scholars both in the oriental and western worlds because of the mystic ideas it holds out. The sixth and seventh chapters have elaborated some more topics on Islamic Monotheism. Dr. Rahman has collected views and theories from different sources and presented them systematically to make them easy to understand. Besides, he has drawn conclusions on them from the Islamic point of view. The author’s effort is an onerous one. He has deliberated upon the topics with such scholarship, that those who want to know the essence of Islamic monotheism will surely benefit.

Wisdom, Justice, and Unconditional Love ¿These days, Muslims are facing all kinds of problems: persecution by different governments, violence among Muslim sects, women's suppression, mass migration, and more. Many Muslims have contradictory behavior: they reject modern industrialization and education but depend on modern conveniences. Even the purity of Islamic monotheism itself is at stake. Guided by the wisdom of the Quran, this book defines many contemporary problems faced by Muslims and provides solutions. For example, the Quran strongly condemns zulm (oppression) and uses the word zulm a whopping 291 times to discourage it. So, on what grounds, can any Muslim support various oppressions, like preventing women from acquiring education and employment? This book also discusses:¿How to peacefully end radical Islamic violence.¿How Muslim men and women can ideologically respond to oppression by fellow Muslims.¿How to bring peace between Muslims sects.¿Without calling anyone kafir, how to peacefully preserve the purity of Islamic monotheism.Sufi literature, accumulated over centuries, proves that loving Allah is the most satisfying spiritual experience. The book describes how to unconditionally love Allah and how to unconditionally love yourself. Islam puts overwhelming emphasis on love and justice. Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) achieved the first major peaceful transfer of power in history. This was when he took over as the head of state of Medina, even though it was a multi-religious society. On another occasion, instead of waging violent jihad, he proposed the Treaty of Hudaybia and made peace with the opponents. The unique concept of Islamic monotheism also solves philosophical puzzles like the free will-predestination paradox and the watchmaker analogy.

Based on epigraphic and other material evidence as well as more traditional literary sources and critical review of the extensive relevant scholarship, this book presents a comprehensive and innovative reconstruction of the rise of Islam as a religion and imperial polity. It reassesses the development of the imperial monotheism of the New Rome, and considers the history of the Arabs as an integral part of Late Antiquity, including Arab ethnogenesis and the emergence of what was to become Muslim monotheism, comparable with the emergence of other monotheisms from polytheistic systems. Topics discussed include the emergence and development of the Muhammadan polity and its new cultic deity and associated ritual, the constitution of the Muslim canon, and the development of early Islam as an imperial religion. Intended principally for scholars of Late Antiquity, Islamic studies and the history of religions, the book opens up many novel directions for future research.

This book discusses the common principles of morality and ethics derived from divinely endowed intuitive reason through the creation of al-fitr' a (nature) and human intellect (al-‘aql). Biomedical topics are presented and ethical issues related to topics such as genetic testing, assisted reproduction and organ transplantation are discussed. Whereas these natural sources are God’s special gifts to human beings, God’s revelation as given to the prophets is the supernatural source of divine guidance through which human communities have been guided at all times through history. The second part of the book concentrates on the objectives of Islamic religious practice – the maqa' sid – which include: Preservation of Faith, Preservation of Life, Preservation of Mind (intellect and reason), Preservation of Progeny (al-nasl) and Preservation of Property. Lastly, the third part of the book discusses selected topical issues, including abortion, assisted reproduction devices, genetics, organ transplantation, brain death and end-of-life aspects. For each topic, the current medical evidence is followed by a detailed discussion of the ethical issues involved.

The eighth volume of the series "Key Concepts of Interreligious Discourses" investigates the roots of the concept of "peace" in Judaism, Christianity and Islam and its relevance for the present time. Facing present violent conflicts waged and justified by religious ideas or reasons, peace building prevails in current debates about religion and peace. Here the central question is: How may traditional sources in religions help to put down the weapons and create a society in which everyone can live safely without hostilities and the threat of violence? When we take the Sacred Scriptures of Judaism, Christianity and Islam into consideration it becomes obvious that the term "peace" and its equivalents in Hebrew, Greek and Arabic describe, at first, an ideal state based on the "love" / "mercy" of God to his creation. It is a divine gift that brings inward peace to the individuum and outer peace resting upon justice and equality. One main task of Jews, Christian and Muslims in the history is to find out how to bring down this transcendent ideal upon earth. The volume presents the concept of "peace" in its different aspects as anchored in the traditions of Judaism, Christianity and Islam. It unfolds commonalities and differences between the three monotheistic religions as well as the manifold discourses about peace within these three traditions. The book offers fundamental knowledge about the specific understanding of peace in each one of these traditions, their interdependencies and their relationship to secular world views.
