For more than 40 years, Howard Stevenson has been a towering figure at Harvard Business School: the man who literally defined entrepreneurship and taught thousands of the world's most successful professionals. Now - spurred by Stevenson's heart-stopping brush with death - his student, colleague, and dear friend Eric Sinoway shares the man's wisdom and inspiration. Through warm and engaging conversations, we hear Howard's timeless and practical lessons on pursuing both success and fulfillment, beginning with: - Create a vision of your own legacy through a process called "business planning for life." - Be entrepreneurial in driving your career ahead (even if you're not an entrepreneur). - Exploit the inflection points in your life - whether "friend," "foe," or "silent." - Cut risk in tough career and life decisions by shining the "light of predictability" on them. - Plan for the ripples, not just the splash from your actions and choices. How orange juice became a North American breakfast staple and what "100% pure orange juice" means today Close to three quarters of U.S. households buy orange juice. Its popularity crosses class, cultural, racial, and regional divides. Why do so many of us drink orange juice? How did it turn from a luxury into a staple in just a few years? More important, how is it that we don't know the real reasons behind OJ's popularity or understand the processes by which the juice is produced? In this enlightening book, Alissa Hamilton explores the hidden history of orange juice. She looks at the early forces that propelled orange juice to prominence, including a surplus of oranges that plagued Florida during most of the twentieth century and the army's need to provide vitamin C to troops overseas during World War II. She tells the stories of the FDA's decision in the early 1960s to standardize orange juice, and the juice equivalent of the cola wars that followed between Coca-Cola (which owns Minute Maid) and Pepsi (which owns Tropicana). Of particular interest to OJ drinkers will be the revelation that most orange juice comes from Brazil, not Florida, and that even "not from concentrate" orange juice is heated, stripped of flavor, stored for up to a year, and then reflavored before it is packaged and sold. The book concludes with a thought-provoking discussion of why consumers have the right to know how their food is produced.

The reason that good interfaces are few and far between is really quite simple: they are extremely difficult to design and build properly. While there are many books available that address display design, most of them focus on aesthetic principles but lack scientific rigor, or are descriptive but not prescriptive. This book elucidates an overarching framework for design that can be applied to the broad spectrum of existing domains. The authors delineate analytical tools and principles of design that are general and powerful, but very abstract, accompanied by concrete examples of their use in a variety of domains of application. The book includes access to a web site containing examples of the dynamic properties of displays.

This book attacks a poison that for so very long we have called political correctness. Political correctness (PC) is the act of avoiding expression or language that can perceptively be construed as marginalizing by specific minorities or demographic groups. It is often difficult to argue against PC, because supporters of PC are likely to claim that contrary to using PC, one would instead use expressions or language that offends, which is oft what I wind up doing. This response is a false conflation of permitting and condoning, but the fallaciousness usually doesn't deter those who want to win the argument. It's easy to accuse someone of simply seeking justification to use epithets in order to put him on the defensive and into the unenviable position of having to assert that he's not a racist. It's also dirty and hateful to do so, and that's how such responses should be considered. We also review Agenda 21, Document 7277, the Illuminati, the Club of Rome, and the Committee of 300 in brevity. We discuss the New World Order and speculate about megaregions and their locations both in the United States and abroad. We take a very long train ride from the most southern tip of South America all the way to New Zealand, and we discuss possibilities for a likely location for the capital of the world (that may surprise you). We even speculate about a location right here in the United States for a habitat for useless eaters. We discuss how close we have come in our society to achieve all the goals of the New World Order. I really hope you enjoy the read.
