DOWNLOAD EBOOKThis report summarizes instream flow protection and related activities of the Alaska Department of Fish and Game’s (ADF&G), Instream Flow Program (IFP) during calendar years 2020 and 2021. The status of reservation of water (reservation) applications by other agencies and the public is also presented. From 2020 to 2021, ADF&G filed six reservation applications for river reaches and was granted certificates of reservation for seven river reaches, providing approximately 19 miles of fish habitat protection. Overall, ADF&G has filed reservation of water applications on 358 river reaches and 7 lakes. Certificates of reservation have been granted to ADF&G for 166 river reaches and one lake, and for one river and one lake under the water export provision, providing fish habitat protection for over 2,600 river miles and 2 lakes. IFP staff performed 13 hydrologic investigations from 2020 to 2021. Investigations were performed primarily to obtain the necessary data to support reservation of water applications. IFP staff monitored 45 Federal Energy Regulatory Commission hydroelectric and hydrokinetic projects and served as ADF&G’s representative for the Alaska Clean Waters Actions program, which funded 11 projects in state fiscal years 2021 to 2023.
