This is the final report of the third session of the Commission, and issues discussed include: the status and trends of fisheries and aquaculture in the Western Central Atlantic Fisheries Commission region; and the main decisions of the eleventh session of the Commission, including the recommendation for the strengthening of the Commission.
This document contains the report of the Commission's 11th session and the Committee's 8th session, held in Grenada in October 2003. Major topics discussed include: the state of fishery resources and trends in the region; strategies for increasing the contribution of small-scale capture fisheries to food security and poverty alleviation; and the current strategy and work programme of the Western Central Atlantic Fishery Commission (WECAFC).
The SAG discussed the outcomes of the work carried out by various joint working groups in 2012-2013, the fisheries resource status in the Wider Caribbean Region, a review of the current fisheries management performance and conservation measures in the WECAFC Region, and activities to be undertaken by WECAFC in 2014-2015. The SAG further discussed WECAFC collaboration with the Fisheries Resource Management System (FIRMS) and prepared a range of recommendations for consideration by the Fifteenth session of WECAFC.
