In recent years visual devices have proliferated, from the massive high-resolution, high-contrast screens to the tiny ones on mobile phones, with their limited dynamic range and color gamut. The wide variety of screens on which content may be viewed creates a challenge for developers. Adapting visual content for optimized viewing on all devices is called retargeting. This is the first book to provide a holistic view of the subject, thoroughly reviewing and analyzing the many techniques that have been developed for retargeting along dimensions such as color gamut, dynamic range, and spatial resolution.

Image retargeting algorithms aim to adjust the image to the display screen whose aspect ratio or size differ significantly from that of the image by applying a non-uniform and content-aware image resizing. Compared to uniform image scaling, retargeting provides considerably better results in terms of its preservation of the images content and integrity. Due to recent advances in display technology, image retargeting has emerged recently as an active field of research in computer vision and graphics. In this dissertation, I will present the results from my investigation of two new typess of image retargeting problems and their solutions. Specifically, I will first propose a novel algorithm that can retarget images to domains with non-rectangular boundary. This improvement over the existing image retargeting algorithms allows a greater flexibility in choosing the retargeted image domain and consequently, it permits a wider range of applications. Second, I will propose a novel algorithm that can simultaneously retarget 3D images and adjust their disparity values, and in the context of 3D image retargeting, I will discuss a new viewpoint that considers the simultaneous objectives of preserving image content as well as maximizing viewing comfort. In the last part of the dissertation, I will present the design and implementation of a smart projector system that incorporates one of the proposed image retargeting algorithm. For the smart projector system, it can automatically determine the display area and retarget the display image accordingly in order to maximize the quality and fidelity of the displayed image.

How to reach the 98 percent of people who leave your website without converting sales The Retargeting Playbook is a complete guide for digital marketers about how to reach the 95 to 98 percent of people who leave a brand's website without converting. Retargeting gives advertisers the ability to stay in front of those people to bring them back and close the deal. For that reason, retargeting has emerged as a must have marketing channel, yet there is a lack of content that explains how the technology actually works and best practices for using it. Even marketing managers at large, sophisticated brands and agencies don’t have a strong grasp of this evolving channel, and there are few good neutral sources on the topic. Meanwhile, retargeting is the cornerstone of any holistic digital advertising strategy since it improves the results of every other channel if implemented correctly. Unfortunately, most marketers are only utilizing the most rudimentary retargeting tactics and barely scratch the surface of its potential. Explains how to stay in front of potential customers and convince them to come back and close the deal This book will be required reading for media buyers at digital agencies, in-house marketing managers at companies in any vertical, performance marketers, and ecommerce managers.
