DFSMSrmm from IBM® is the full function tape management system available in IBM OS/390® and IBM z/OS®. With DFSMSrmm, you can manage all types of tape media at the shelf, volume, and data set level, simplifying the tasks of your tape librarian. Are you a new DFSMSrmm user? Then, this IBM Redbooks® publication introduces you to the DFSMSrmm basic concepts and functions. You learn how to manage your tape environment by implementing the DFSMSrmm management policies. Are you already using DFSMSrmm? In that case, this publication provides the most up-to-date information about the new functions and enhancements introduced with the latest release of DFSMSrmm. You will find useful information for implementing these new functions and getting more benefits from DFSMSrmm. Do you want to test DFSMSrmm functions? If you are using another tape management system and are thinking about converting to DFSMSrmm, you can start DFSMSrmm and run it in parallel with your current system for testing purposes. This book is intended to be a starting point for new professionals and a handbook for using the basic DFSMSrmm functions. To learn about some of the newer DFSMSrmm functions and features refer to Redbooks Publication What is New in DFSMSrmm, SG24-8529.

IBM® System z® servers offer a full range of connectivity options for attaching peripheral or internal devices for input and output to the server. At the other end of these connections are a variety of devices for data storage, printing, terminal I/O, and network routing. This combination of connectivity and hardware offer System z customers solutions to meet most connectivity requirements. However, to make use of these features, the System z server must be properly configured. This IBM Redbooks® publication takes a high-level look at the tools and processes involved in configuring a System z server. We provide an introduction to the System z channel subsystem and the terminology frequently used in the hardware definition process. We examine the features and functions of tools used in the hardware definition process, such as HCD, CHPID Mapping Tool, and HCM. We discuss the input and output of these tools (IODF, IOCP, IOCDS) and their relationship to one another. We also provide a high-level overview of the hardware configuration process (the flow of generating a valid I/O configuration). We provide configuration examples using both HCD and HCM. The book also discusses available new functions and guidelines for the effective use of HCD and HCM. This document is intended for system programmers and administrators who are responsible for defining and activating hardware changes to z/OS® and System z servers, and for the IBM representatives who need this information. General knowledge of z/OS and IOCP is assumed.

This IBM® Redbooks® publication describes the concepts, architecture, and implementation of the IBM DS8900F family. This book provides reference information to assist readers who need to plan for, install, and configure the DS8900F systems. This edition applies to DS8900F systems running microcode Release 9.0 (Bundle 89.0 / Licensed Machine Code (LMC) 7.9.0.xxx). The DS8900F family offers two new classes: IBM DS8910F: Flexibility Class all-flash: The Flexibility Class is designed to reduce complexity while addressing various workloads at the lowest DS8900F family entry cost. IBM DS8950F: Agility Class all-flash: The Agility Class is designed to consolidate all your mission-critical workloads for IBM Z®, IBM LinuxONE, IBM Power Systems, and distributed environments under a single all-flash storage solution. The DS8900F architecture relies on powerful IBM POWER9TM processor-based servers that manage the cache to streamline disk input/output (I/O), which maximizes performance and throughput. These capabilities are further enhanced by High-Performance Flash Enclosures (HPFE) Gen2. Like its predecessors, the DS8900F supports advanced disaster recovery (DR) solutions, business continuity solutions, and thin provisioning. The IBM DS8910F Rack-Mounted model 993 is described in a separate publication, IIBM DS8910F Model 993 Rack-Mounted Storage System, REDP-5566.
