The Tactile Internet will change the landscape of communication by introducing a new paradigm that enables the remote delivery of haptic data. This book answers the many questions surrounding the Tactile Internet, including its reference architecture and adapted compression methods for conveying haptic information. It also describes the key enablers for deploying the applications of the Tactile Internet. As an antecedent technology, the IoT is tackled, explaining the differences and similarities between the Tactile Internet, the Internet of Things and the Internet of Everything. The essentials of teleoperation systems are summarized and the challenges that face this paradigm in its implementation and deployment are also discussed. Finally, a teleoperation case study demonstrating an application of the Tactile Internet is investigated to demonstrate its functionalities, architecture and performance.
This book features research papers presented at the 4th International Conference on Intelligent Sustainable Systems (ICISS 2021), held at SCAD College of Engineering and Technology, Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu, India, during February 26–27, 2021. The book discusses the latest research works that discuss the tools, methodologies, practices, and applications of sustainable systems and computational intelligence methodologies. The book is beneficial for readers from both academia and industry.
As the internet and new online technologies are becoming embedded in everyday life, there are increasing questions about their social implications and consequences. This text addresses these risks in relation to children.
This book offers a magisterial overview on children and television from the accumulated global literature in this field of the past 50 years, combining both the American tradition, influenced heavily by developmental psychological studies, as well as the European tradition, characterized by more sociological and cultural studies perspectives to the field. Similarly, it draws together a methodological diversity from both the quantitative – experimental and survey research, together with the qualitative – ethnographic and interview – research of children and television. With a distinctively international approach, Children and Television highlights the global perspective in each of the chapters, balancing the need to contextualize television in children’s lives in their unique cultural spaces, as well as searching for universal understandings that hold true for children around the world.
The purpose of this book was to offer an overview of recent insights into the current state of arthroplasty. The tremendous long term success of Sir Charnley's total hip arthroplasty has encouraged many researchers to treat pain, improve function and create solutions for higher quality of life. Indeed and as described in a special chapter of this book, arthroplasty is an emerging field in the joints of upper extremity and spine. However, there are inborn complications in any foreign design brought to the human body. First, in the chapter on infections we endeavor to provide a comprehensive, up-to-date analysis and description of the management of this difficult problem. Second, the immune system is faced with a strange material coming in huge amounts of micro-particles from the tribology code. Therefore, great attention to the problem of aseptic loosening has been addressed in special chapters on loosening and on materials currently available for arthroplasty.
This book offers practical as well as conceptual knowledge of the latest trends, tools, techniques and methodologies of data analytics in smart cities. The smart city is an advanced technological area that is capable of understanding the environment by examining the data to improve the livability. The smart cities allow different kinds of wireless sensors to gather massive amounts, full speed and a broad range of city data. The smart city has a focus on data analytics facilitated through the IoT platforms. There is a need to customize the IoT architecture and infrastructures to address needs in application of specific domains of smart cities such as transportation, traffic, health and, environment. The smart cities will provide next generation development technologies for urbanization that includes the need of environmental sustainability, personalization, mobility, optimum energy utilization, better administrative services and higher quality of life. Each chapter presents the reader with an in-depth investigation regarding the possibility of data analytics perspective in smart cities. The book presents cutting-edge and future perspectives of smart cities, where industry experts, scientists, and scholars exchange ideas and experience about surrounding frontier technologies, breakthrough and innovative solutions and applications.
