The pattern uses worsted weight yarn and size 5 mm (size 8 US) single pointed knitting needles. It’s knit flat and you can either use self-striping yarn or use different shades of yarn to make this toque. I indicate where to change the colours of yarn in the pattern so there isn’t any confusion. But please note, you can knit the beanie in one solid colour also. There’s no reason why you can’t. This tuque is in adult sizes only! It is NOT knit in the traditional way by casting on stitches to go around your head. It’s knit from the side. Each row runs from the forehead to the top up to the crown of the head or to the pom pom. This is what makes the stripes vertical instead of the usual horizontal ones on all the other winter hats out there.

I've made this pattern as simple as possible with the least amount of sewing necessary (my least favourite thing to do). It doesn't even need a zipper, as I designed it to have a flap to fold over and hold in your valuables securely. The pattern is fairly simple and easy to follow, but in case you have a hard time with the fluff stitch, I made a video which shows the technique entitled How to Knit the Fluff or Loop Stitch video on YouTube.
