Excerpt from Hearing by Joint Subcommittees on Financial Management in the National Park Service: Oversight Hearing Before the Subcommittees of the Committee on Appropriations Subcommittee on the Department of the Interior and Related Agencies and the Committee on Resources Subcommittee on National Parks, Forests and Lands, House of Representatives, O Second, we believe that the current fiscal climate demands that the Park Service and other Federal land management agencies work together to reduce costs, increase efficiency, and improve service to the public. Toward this end, we believe that the Park Service needs to work closely with the Congress and other Federal land management agencies to develop a coordinated interagency strategy to link Park Service reforms to reforms being proposed by the other agencies. Finally, we believe that the Park Service's restructuring plan must ultimately incorporate the results of a thorough sorting out of the functions and programs that are essential and are not essen tial to its mission. That concludes my summary statement, Messrs. Chairmen, and I would request that my detailed statement be submitted in the record. I would be glad to respond to any questions that you or other members of the subcommittee may have. Mr. Regula. Without objection the statement will be made a part of the record. We thank you.
