DOWNLOAD EBOOKThe Belly of Paris (Le Ventre de Paris) is the third novel in Émile Zola's twenty-volume series Les Rougon-Macquart, first published in 1873. It is a novel of the teeming life which surrounds the great central markets of Paris. The book was originally translated into English by Henry Vizetelly and published in 1888 under the title Fat and Thin. After Vizetelly's imprisonment for obscene libel the novel was one of those revised and expurgated by his son, Ernest Alfred Vizetelly. The heroine is Lisa Quenu, a daughter of Antoine Macquart. She has become prosperous, and with prosperity her selfishness has increased. Her brother-in-law Florent had escaped from penal servitude in Cayenne and lived for a short time in her house, but she became tired of his presence and ultimately denounced him to the police. Émile Zola (1840 – 1902) was a French writer, the most important exemplar of the literary school of naturalism and an important contributor to the development of theatrical naturalism. He was a major figure in the political liberalization of France.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKIn the mid-twentieth century, The Bluebell Girls-dancers known particularly for their height and glamorous appearance-were recognized and admired throughout much of the world. At any one time, troupes appeared on several continents in a multitude of venues: theaters, clubs, on TV, at the Lido in Paris and the Stardust in Las Vegas. In Have Chignon-Will Travel: Touring Italy with the Bluebell Girls 1960-61, Elizabeth Dale Phillips takes you with her on an incredible odyssey, starting out as a shorthand-typist in London who had never danced professionally, and metamorphosing into an elegant Bluebell Girl. She begins in Milan as a rookie dancer on a bare stage with seventeen other dancers, a pianist, a drummer and a choreographer. Over the next five exhausting weeks of rehearsals, she witnesses the creation of a polished show-a show in which over the next seven months, as a member of the company, she would tour every inch of Italy and Sicily.Elizabeth, now in her eighties, tells her story with both candor and humor. It's a tale of camaraderie and occasional strife, lots of glamour, even more hard work, and sometimes boredom, all while taking an excursion that most twenty-year-old women in 1960 could have only dreamed of.Blurb: "I had the incredible honor of interviewing Elizabeth Phillips on my podcast last year, when this book was still a work in progress. Now that it's out, it gives a wonderful glimpse into the past, when Bluebell Girls performed in touring companies in an era when foreign travel was rare. It gives us a peek into the glamorous lives of dancers traveling abroad. Her descriptions of backstage and onstage complications had me laughing out loud. Former Bluebells are thrilled that this book exists as it captures, with heart and humor, the wonderful lives that we all lived."-Sheri Lewis, Host of Bluebells Forever PodcastBluebell Girls performed in an era when foreign travel was rare. DOWNLOAD EBOOKThis story is set in the late eighteen hundreds in Ontario, Canada. Collingwood today is a beautiful and prestigious resort area located north of Toronto on Georgian Bay. An exciting place in those days, it was hoped this bustling port would become the Chicago of the North. Here is the tale of three women from different stations in life. The challenges they face in life in the Victorian era are not so different from women today who also seek love and fulfillment in their lives. Narrated by a ghost in the first chapter, the story has elements of both mystery and suspense. The author interviewed older residents and did research to try to get in touch with the essence of that time which gives an authenticity to the writing. This book also abounds with descriptions of everyday life and gives the sensation of going back in a time machine. The novel breaks down into three sections telling the stories of Caitlin, Annie, and Winnie, whose fates are interconnected in a subtle way as their lives unfoldaffected as we all are by our backgrounds, environment, and the mores of the time in which we live. The one thing in our lives that we can control is our freedom of choice, and thus it seems ultimately we are the authors of our own destiny notwithstanding those other circumstances. The story comes together in the final chapter where the reader solves the mystery of the identity of the ghost. A good-sized novel but a quick, entertaining read for fiction lovers. At the end, youll want more.
