Excerpt from Harvard College Class of 1905: June, 1920 Since the last Report was offered to the Class, the world, and the Class as a part of it, has gone through the test of the Great War. How well the Class stood the test is shown in the number of men who did their parts here and abroad. To those who died no finer tribute can be given than was given in the address of Palfrey Perkins at our memorial service last year. This is printed elsewhere in this volume. There is, however, the reverse of the medal. Great things have been done, and a great Victory won and now we all seem averse to undertaking the ordinary minor things, the drudgeries that are necessary for the final rehabilitation of the world. This is shown most clearly in the difficulties of the work of the various class secretaries during the past year. I speak not alone for myself. The number of men who did not return their class "lives" was remarkably large, the number of men who had changed their addresses and sent no notice to the secretary so that for the time being, at least, they were rated as "lost" was greater than ever before. All this can be laid, it seems, to the spirit of "we have fought a good fight and won, let us rest a bit." Petty as these things may seem, yet they exemplify the spirit of the times. Too great credit cannot be given to Charles E. Mason for the publication of this report. It was thought best that it be published in Boston and as a result he took it in charge and by him all the real work has been done. I also wish to thank Sam Hinckley for leaving to me a perfectly oiled piece of machinery in his records and system so that practically all I had to do was to stand by and watch the wheels go round. Excerpt from Secretary's Second Report: Harvard College Class of 1911 At the present time, the Class has on hand in cash and in bonds as listed below - a total of There should, however, be a total of as there is in pledges due but not yet paid. Of this, $404 dates back to our Senior year in college $630 to June, 1912; to June, 1913, and the serious total of to last June. Most of this very appreciable sum is in small units which have in many cases been left unpaid by mere forget fulness. If as you read this, this statement applies to you, let's have a check at once and wind the matter up. Also, if you are one of a number of men who made their first deposit for a Class Album, or one of a number who now regret that they did not get one of these splendid Class souvenirs when in college, you have in the first case only to send the balance of $5, or in the second case to send $7 to have one of the Albums come to you. The sum of credited to the Photograph Committee under the heading of assets represents sums due or volumes in hand which will probably not be completely realized on. Excerpt from The Harvard Book, Vol. 1: A Series of Historical, Biographical, and Descriptive Sketches IN the middle of the academic year 1873 - 74, when the subject of class photographs was being discussed by that class which was to graduate 'at the following Commencement, this work was begun. It originated by considering the possibility of securing, in some more durable and attractive manner than hitherto, those pictures of the familiar scenes and faces of College days which every student at the end of his four-years' life at Harvard desires to carry away with him. It was thought this object might be best attained if there were added to the usual pictures composing a class album descriptive sketches of the College grounds, buildings, and those institutions which enter so largely into the social life of the undergraduate.
