Excerpt from Compend of Gynecology The very kind manner in which the first edition of this little book has been received by the medical profession has encouraged the author to publish a second. Quite a considerable number of changes have been made in this new edition, particularly in the field of Operative gynecology, these being rendered necessary by the wonderfully rapid progress in this branch of surgery. The author has endeavored to correct a number of errors, typo graphical'and otherwise, which appeared in the first edition. Several recent methods of diagnosis and treatment have been either added or, in some cases, substituted for those which were in vogue when the first edition was printed. By the kindness of the publishers several new illustrations have been introduced. The author desires to tender thanks to his friend, Dr. Wilmer Krusen, for his kindly aid and suggestions, and to Dr. P. Clarkson Ellis, for notes on recent literature. To Dr. L. F. Appleman the author is indebted for the index. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Excerpt from Gynecology Part II is designed primarily for the undergraduate student who is taking his initial course in gynecology. It includes a description of those diseases which are essentially gynecologic, and is thus isolated in a somewhat compact form in order that the student may not be confronted by _a too formidable array of facts in his collateral reading and in his preparation for his final examination in the subject. In order to accomplish this purpose certain encumbering details have been subordinated. Thus, in the description of each disease, the underlying pathologic processes are enumerated. Microscopic detail, however, can better be learned from pictures than from tedious descriptions. For that reason' draw ings from microscopic sections illustrating the respective diseases are presented under each subject with full descriptive legends appended to them. In like manner the surgical principles involved in the treatment of the various dis eases are recounted, but the technic of the operations and the pictures illustrating their performance, matters of secondary interest to the student of the theory of gynecology, are reserved for a separate section. Part III is devoted exclusively to the technic of gynecologic surgery and is written for the assistance of the advanced student and practitioner. Surgical devices for the cure of gynecologic diseases are innumerable, and it is impossible to include them all in a book of this scope. Only those operations which from the personal experience or judgment of the author seem best suited for the special requirements are presented. Many excellent procedures have, there fore, been unavoidably omitted. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Excerpt from The Diagnosis of Diseases of Women IT has been the endeavor of the author to write a work on the Diagnosis of Diseases of \vomen that will be equally adapted to the needs of student and practitioner, and in line with the most modern views. The recognition of the pathology of the pelvic organs in large measure constitutes a diagnosis. Because of this fundamental fact the author has deemed it desirable to incorporate a thorough discussion of the morbid anatomy, both macroscopic and micros00pic, and to point out its clinical indications. Special stress has been placed upon the microscopic diagnosis of the various lesions, not alone on account of its scientific interest, but also, and more particularly, because of its great clinical importance. Without the microscope a diagnosis is not always possible. Medical literature in the English language has not hitherto included a work on this subject. In the effort to supply this desideratum the author has aimed to satisfy the requirements of those who have felt the need of more comprehensive and prac tical information than can be given in the general text - books on gynecology. It is hoped that this work will be serviceable to those who do not have access to foreign literature. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Excerpt from Clinical Gynecology The series of clinical lectures which comprise this monograph were delivered at various times to the senior class of the Cleve land-pulte Medical College, there being present in nearly all instances students and practitioners of the dominant school of medicine. Some of the lectures have previously appeared in print. They were stenographically reported and, later, edited. In the process of editing the writer has introduced from his records illustrative cases which were not presented in the clinic whenever by so doing it was possible better to emphasize the subject under consideration. It will be noted that nearly all the subjects dealt with are border-land subj ects, and should, therefore, interest the internist as well as the surgeon.
