Sometimes, grace gets messy. Caleb Kaltenbach was raised by LGBT parents, marched in gay pride parades as a youngster, and experienced firsthand the hatred and bitterness of some Christians toward his family. But then Caleb surprised everyone, including himself, by becoming a Christian…and a pastor. Very few issues in Christianity are as divisive as the acceptance of the LGBT community in the church. As a pastor and as a person with beloved family members living a gay lifestyle, Caleb had to face this issue with courage and grace. Messy Grace shows us that Jesus’s command to “love your neighbor as yourself” doesn’t have an exception clause for a gay “neighbor”—or for that matter, any other “neighbor” we might find it hard to relate to. Jesus was able to love these people and yet still hold on to his beliefs. So can you. Even when it’s messy. “Messy Grace is an important contribution to the conversation about sexual identity for churches and leaders. Caleb's story is surprising and unique, and he weaves it together compellingly. He states his views clearly, leaves room for disagreement, and champions love no matter where you are in this conversation.” —Jud Wilhite, Sr. Pastor, Central Christian Church

It's no secret that parenting is tricky business. With advice flooding in from all sides, strong-willed children pushing against boundaries, and our own human flaws, it's easy to get bogged down in every how-to that we're not doing well. But maybe that isn't the right approach. Maybe the first step is not to ask "how" but to ask "why." Like most parents, when Shelly Wildman had children, she consulted books, sermons, and lectures on how to raise the best children possible. Yet every resource focused on how to get external results: children who behave the way others expected them to. For Shelly and her husband, the turning point happened when they started asking why instead--shifting their focus to internal change. That's when their purpose as parents became clear: parents are called to do their best to show kids how to know and love Jesus, to love others, and to make a difference in the world. There are no rules here, no inflexible series of steps that lead to perfect parenting. Instead, Shelly encourages parents to think about their unique family and why each child's needs for spiritual growth might look different. She walks you through intentional questioning, focusing on building a firm foundation for lasting discipleship. And in the end, you'll discover that God wants the same outcome you do: a child who knows Christ intimately, loves him deeply, and has a heart to serve him fully.

Grace is the author's first book, but as you begin to read, you will quickly discover that the anointing and hand of God was upon her as she wrote this amazing story! The words will capture and arrest you as she so eloquently brings fiction, nonfiction, and exaggerated truths together in a way that you will never expect! Grace is a Christian fiction novel filled with examples of faith, trust, and God's grace and forgiveness, as quoted in the books of Jeremiah 29:11 and Colossians 3:13. Jeremiah 29:11 says, "For I know the plans I have for you, plans to prosper you, not to harm you, but to give you hope and an expected end." This passage of Scripture confirms that God determines the plans for our lives, which brings a reassurance of comfort and peace if we trust and obey His plan. Colossians 3:13 teaches us about forgiveness and grace. Extending grace to another person simply means to forgive them unconditionally, just as God forgave us through Christ. "Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you" (Colossians 3:13 NIV). Grab a good, comfortable spot and get ready to experience a realistic look into some of the most intriguing relationship challenges and unexpected twists and turns. For some of us, it's not until we have gone through life's deepest valley lows and mountain highs that we fully learn how to successfully navigate these never-ending experiences. But there is hope because we have assurance of getting through to the other side by leaning on God's Word and listening and obeying His voice. You will laugh, cry, scream, and even get uncomfortable as you identify with the pain and uncertainty that life can present. But more importantly, after reading this book, you will truly understand that God's grace is sufficient when you embrace His promises through lessons of faith, hope, trust.

This is a serious, yet humorous, chronological account of Jim Diehl’s search for his true family, and the many turns along that path he encountered. Growing up, there were no baby books or relatives to answer his questions about who he was. His earliest memory is growing up with his brother, Steve, on a small farm in Milton, West Virginia, in the foster care of the Lewis family. During those years, he was known as Jimmy Ying. At the beginning of 1956, the brothers were told they were going on a visit with their “social lady,” Mrs. Morgan. On a cold and very snowy January 11th morning, they were bundled up and sent off before being told they were going to visit some very nice people. When asked if they’d like to stay or just visit with these new nice people, the author immediately said he wanted to stay, but his brother hesitantly said, “just visit.” Join the author as he looks back at what it was like to grow up as a ward of the state and how he finally answered that question about who he is in His Grace IS Sufficient. “His Grace is Sufficient” is a beautiful love story of God demonstrating His enduring love, perfect timing, and deep, abiding intimacy through the life of one man. This creative expression is not just Jim’s story - it is yours. Read and remember your life story and how God will “go out of His way” to complete the circle and provide every human being a family and a place to call home.” William D. Nicholson II, Ph.D. President Connie Maxwell Children’s Home Since coming to South Carolina I have known Jim Diehl as a Director of Missions and passionate church musician. After reading “His Grace IS Sufficient”, I now know him as a trophy of God’s grace. As you read his story, you will shed tears...first of sadness, but then of joy. This book is a powerful reminder of the goodness and grace of God, and that He DOES take care of “the least of these.” Dr. Gary Hollingsworth, Executive Director-Treasurer, SC Baptist Convention

Shares the story of the revolutionary Marxist and Catholic Grace Holmes Carlson and her life-long dedication to challenging social and economic inequality On December 8, 1941, Grace Holmes Carlson, the only female defendant among eighteen Trotskyists convicted under the Smith Act, was sentenced to sixteen months in federal prison for advocating the violent overthrow of the government. After serving a year in Alderson prison, Carlson returned to her work as an organizer for the Socialist Workers Party (SWP) and ran for vice president of the United States under its banner in 1948. Then, in 1952, she abruptly left the SWP and returned to the Catholic Church. With the support of the Sisters of St. Joseph, who had educated her as a child, Carlson began a new life as a professor of psychology at St. Mary’s Junior College in Minneapolis where she advocated for social justice, now as a Catholic Marxist. The Fierce Life of Grace Holmes Carlson: Catholic, Socialist, Feminist is a historical biography that examines the story of this complicated woman in the context of her times with a specific focus on her experiences as a member of the working class, as a Catholic, and as a woman. Her story illuminates the workings of class identity within the context of various influences over the course of a lifespan. It contributes to recent historical scholarship exploring the importance of faith in workers’ lives and politics. And it uncovers both the possibilities and limitations for working-class and revolutionary Marxist women in the period between the first and second wave feminist movements. The long arc of Carlson’s life (1906–1992) ultimately reveals significant continuities in her political consciousness that transcended the shifts in her particular partisan commitments, most notably her life-long dedication to challenging the root causes of social and economic inequality. In that struggle, Carlson ultimately proved herself to be a truly fierce woman.
