When I believed God chose the wrong person, I was thinking about me, not Him. I saw my brokenness as a handicap, not an asset. How could He use my insecurity, low self-esteem, financial struggle, bluntness, perfectionism, awkwardness, and failure for good? The wrong person is always the right person to God. Think about it? he used a prostitute, a murderer, a widow, a criminal, fishermen, a tax collector, a boy with some bread and fish, all the seemingly wrong people, to change the world. He chooses all the wrong people, because in His perfect plan, He sent Jesus, to transform us into all the right people. My heart is full realizing the treasure of being the wrong person. When God chooses 'the wrong person' you have a front row seat to the miracles of what only He can do. He knows you cannot do it. He knows you know you cannot do it. Your life is fully His and He chooses to do with your life what will be for His glory and not yours. God chose me, who I can prove is the wrong person, because He wants the glory of making me the right person. The moment people think of us and immediately think of Jesus, we will be on our way to leaving a legacy.

A step by step discipleship guide to grow a deeper, more meaningful relationship with God. Alissa Harris exemplifies the concept that our relationship with God is one by choice filled with love, respect and learning. She takes her own life events and discusses the Biblical principles with comparative and competing conversations we have with ourselves and God. This demonstrates to the reader applicable solutions to everyday struggles that affect our daily lives and our walk with God. The book opens by exploring hearing God, both from His written Word and in the other ways He speaks to us. God’s desire for a relationship with each of us is brought out as a key theme in our Christian walk. The book continues expanding the alignment of personal choices to our relationship with God. Alissa brings in her own experiences to support key points often with fully transparent emotionally charged details we can feel in our own lives. Building on each step, Alissa leads us through trusting in challenging circumstances, and our earthly relationships, to the realization we ultimately choose God’s path because His plans are for our good. Her heartwarming passion and unbridled transparency showcase how every struggle or situation we can find ourselves in, has an answer from God. These answers can draw us closer to God by allowing us to see how God is always longing for a relationship with us.

THE DILEMMA OF BEING CHOSEN is about the triangular interworking of being chosen, being favoured, and being purposed for a specific task. Being chosen by God for whatever task is in itself a tremendous honour, but with such honour comes the dilemma that the vessel of choice has to face in relation to that specific task. Long after God has made His choice in choosing the vessel, the vessel, more often than not, struggles with the context of his or her life in relation to his or her purpose. For a follower of Christ, the irony of being chosen is this: we are chosen out of the world to live in the world. The place from where we are chosen and the one in which we live are two very different places. Finding ourselves in between these two worlds is when the tug-of-war inside of us starts. We would be in error if we thought that our lives could remain unaffected by the impact of our being chosen for whatever purpose. From the inception of such purpose to its manifestation, a person is in need of divine favour to bridge the gap. The truth is that although we are called out of the world whilst living in the world, the debilitating atmosphere of the world aims to misalign us from our purpose. It is such paradox that sets us on a collision course with ourselves, which will bring us into contact with the dilemma of being chosen.

Many church leaders and other people of faith feel constrained by time-worn strategies, tactics, and attitudes. Unwritten rules of how to do church seem to force us into neat and tidy patterns. But new ideas and methods are bubbling up in all corners of the Church, and new leaders are taking risks, creating opportunities, and rewriting their communities’ definition of church. One such leader is author Scott Chrostek. In The Misfit Mission, Chrostek describes what it looks like for us to do the right thing in ministry, even when logic or ‘rules’ say it’s the wrong thing. He shows how we really can do more than we might ask or imagine, when we remember God’s call and the promises of scripture—when we live each day with the expectation of holy surprise. Chrostek shares inspiring stories from all sorts of people, and often funny, poignant tales from his ministry as church planter and campus pastor of The Church of the Resurrection Downtown, in urban Kansas City. He illustrates how people can uncover their innate passion for knowing and serving Christ, and how a church can become an integral part of the community. The misfit mission is God’s own creative, surprising, crazy-beautiful way, and this book proves how we can be a part of it!
