Special attention was given to ensuring that policy and planning takes into account the demands and realities of regional health authorities, health care facilities and emergency management personnel. Key outcomes of the National Forum included commitments to : 1) Develop a national surge capacity strategy in Canada, 2) Define issues that relate to information sharing between provinces, territories and non-government organizations during a public health-related emergency, 3) Develop a Canadian Recovery Agenda to direct research and programming in the coming years, and 4) Initiate discussions amongst key public health emergency management stakeholders in the development of an Emergency Management Training and Education Strategy in Canada.
