Math investigations for use in a school garden connected to the Grades 1-6 Ontario Mathematics Curriculum (number sense and numeration, measurement, and data management). This garden math unit was developed to make mathematics more holistic (using all of the senses). There are eight investigations and each contains ideas for most grades from 1-6 within that skill or concept. This allows teachers to consider the range of knowledge and ability within a concept for students who may need support or enrichment. It can be used in conjunction with textbooks to add practice and skill development. There are many benefits to gardening with students, the exercise, the healthy food, the fresh air and sunshine, but it is difficult for teachers to meet curriculum goals while doing special projects like gardening. This unit is meant to accommodate teachers who would like to meet curriculum goals while gardening with their class.
