As requested by the Economic and Social Council, the Population Division, Department of Economic and Social Affairs of the United Nations Secretariat, annually prepares the world population monitoring report on the topic of that year's session of the Commission. The fullreport is accompanied by a summarized version, the "concise report".The report covers topics such as trends in population, education and development; education and entry into reproductive life; the interrelationships between education and fertility; education, health and mortality; and education and international migration. The report finds that education plays a key role in national development, besides being a prime component of individual well-being.

This book provides a solid empirical portrait based on the complexities of demographic components of population change. It describes recent innovations, trends, challenges and solutions to population change and public policy issues, such as but not limited to immigration, gender discrimination in the labor market, student housing, teen pregnancy programs, smoking and alcohol consumption, and environment and self-rated health. As such it provides an interesting platform for academics, researchers, policy makers, and students to explore experiences and research findings on special topics in applied demography and how those inform the field of population studies and public policy.
Extension education has gained public support and it has envisaged as an instrument for social change. Hence, the UGC has recognised the extension as third dimension of the university. In India, University extensions have grown with the literacy programmes in the form of eradication of illiteracy and also attempted to understand adult illiterates for their educational needs, their psychological processes, learning potential, reference point and readiness etc. But the changing scenario of the society and due to globalization, urbanization and privatization, the role of universities and extension activities need radical changes in their approaches. In light of the above, a national seminar on Universities and Extension Services (Future Directions) was organized. The paper presented in the seminar have been compiled for the benefit of the academicians, researchers, administrators, stakeholders etc.

Since human beings entering the modern era, risks have become parts of the very fabric of the society, either social, cultural, economy or political; they hit them entirely and continuously. The risks of the pandemic Covid-19 – hit the world in 2020 – have brought in a real jeopardy; new crises, new problems, new challenges that have radically changed ways of living of human beings in all continents and in all aspects of their daily activities. The issue of sustainability as the core principle to govern the today society – social, cultural, political and education – has been more prominent yet faced more difficult and unprecedented challenges. The academic conference addresses the issue of sustainability of social, education and political values, traditions and activities pursued by human beings in their daily life as now have been entirely affected by the pandemic. On the one hand, there is an inherent risk of the modern living, the vulnerability of human being and the power of nature that must be not only understood and learnt but also institutionalized and structured in various arena of social life of the people. On the other hand, there has been a tremendous change on the ways the social features of human living – from simple informal meeting/gathering of neighborhoods to daily shopping, formal working at the office/home, school teachings, professional football matches, elections and government/state ceremonies – being re-defined, reconstructed and carried out with online/virtual media. This new social fabric – thank to the Internet! – will eventually re-shape all established social institutions – states/government bodies, private companies, churches/religious organizations, schools/universities and so forth – on their approaches and serve the populace as well as their adaptation and change to survive and sustain.
