DOWNLOAD EBOOKThis IMA Volume in Mathematics and its Applications PARTICULATE FLOWS: PROCESSING AND RHEOLOGY is based on the proceedings of a very successful one-week workshop with the same title, which was an integral part of the 1995-1996 IMA program on "Mathematical Methods in Materials Science." We would like to thank Donald A. Drew, Daniel D. Joseph, and Stephen L. Passman for their excellent work as organizers of the meeting. We also take this opportunity to thank the National Science Foun dation (NSF), the Army Research Office (ARO) and the Office of Naval Research (ONR), whose financial support made the workshop possible. A vner Friedman Robert Gulliver v PREFACE The workshop on Particulate Flows: Processing and Rheology was held January 8-12, 1996 at the Institute for Mathematics and its Applications on the University of Minnesota Twin Cities campus as part of the 1995- 96 Program on Mathematical Methods in Materials Science. There were about forty participants, and some lively discussions, in spite of the fact that bad weather on the east coast kept some participants from attending, and caused scheduling changes throughout the workshop. Heterogeneous materials can behave strangely, even in simple flow sit uations. For example, a mixture of solid particles in a liquid can exhibit behavior that seems solid-like or fluid-like, and attempting to measure the "viscosity" of such a mixture leads to contradictions and "unrepeatable" experiments. Even so, such materials are commonly used in manufacturing and processing.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKGas-Particle and Granular Flow Systems: Coupled Numerical Methods and Applications breaks down complexities, details numerical methods (including basic theory, modeling and techniques in programming), and provides researchers with an introduction and starting point to each of the disciplines involved. As the modeling of gas-particle and granular flow systems is an emerging interdisciplinary field of study involving mathematics, numerical methods, computational science, and mechanical, chemical and nuclear engineering, this book provides an ideal resource for new researchers who are often intimidated by the complexities of fluid-particle, particle-particle, and particle-wall interactions in many disciplines. Presents the most recent advances in modeling of gas-particle and granular flow systems Features detailed and multidisciplinary case studies at the conclusion of each chapter to underscore key concepts Discusses coupled methods of particle and granular flow systems theory and includes advanced modeling tools and numerical techniques

DOWNLOAD EBOOKThis book is an introduction to the theory, practice, and implementation of the Lattice Boltzmann (LB) method, a powerful computational fluid dynamics method that is steadily gaining attention due to its simplicity, scalability, extensibility, and simple handling of complex geometries. The book contains chapters on the method's background, fundamental theory, advanced extensions, and implementation. To aid beginners, the most essential paragraphs in each chapter are highlighted, and the introductory chapters on various LB topics are front-loaded with special "in a nutshell" sections that condense the chapter's most important practical results. Together, these sections can be used to quickly get up and running with the method. Exercises are integrated throughout the text, and frequently asked questions about the method are dealt with in a special section at the beginning. In the book itself and through its web page, readers can find example codes showing how the LB method can be implemented efficiently on a variety of hardware platforms, including multi-core processors, clusters, and graphics processing units. Students and scientists learning and using the LB method will appreciate the wealth of clearly presented and structured information in this volume.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKHere is a basic introduction to Lattice Boltzmann models that emphasizes intuition and simplistic conceptualization of processes, while avoiding the complex mathematics that underlies LB models. The model is viewed from a particle perspective where collisions, streaming, and particle-particle/particle-surface interactions constitute the entire conceptual framework. Beginners and those whose interest is in model application over detailed mathematics will find this a powerful 'quick start' guide. Example simulations, exercises, and computer codes are included.

DOWNLOAD EBOOKComputational Modelling of Concrete and Concrete Structures contains the contributions to the EURO-C 2022 conference (Vienna, Austria, 23-26 May 2022). The papers review and discuss research advancements and assess the applicability and robustness of methods and models for the analysis and design of concrete, fibre-reinforced and prestressed concrete structures, as well as masonry structures. Recent developments include methods of machine learning, novel discretisation methods, probabilistic models, and consideration of a growing number of micro-structural aspects in multi-scale and multi-physics settings. In addition, trends towards the material scale with new fibres and 3D printable concretes, and life-cycle oriented models for ageing and durability of existing and new concrete infrastructure are clearly visible. Overall computational robustness of numerical predictions and mathematical rigour have further increased, accompanied by careful model validation based on respective experimental programmes. The book will serve as an important reference for both academics and professionals, stimulating new research directions in the field of computational modelling of concrete and its application to the analysis of concrete structures. EURO-C 2022 is the eighth edition of the EURO-C conference series after Innsbruck 1994, Bad Gastein 1998, St. Johann im Pongau 2003, Mayrhofen 2006, Schladming 2010, St. Anton am Arlberg 2014, and Bad Hofgastein 2018. The overarching focus of the conferences is on computational methods and numerical models for the analysis of concrete and concrete structures.
