The information supplied by the University Calendar regarding such students does not go back further than 1861, and is limited to graduates in Arts with Honours. In what follows the list is carried back to the 17th century, and some minor details have been introduced as having an interest of their own, though they would have been out of place in a document of the nature of a University Calendar. It will be observed that for the sake of completeness there have been added the names of several Alumni incorporated m.a. At Oxford or Cambridge between 1579 and 1696.
