DOWNLOAD EBOOKA program of field measurement work to determine airway frictionfactors was carried out in eleven Canadian mines representingnickel, copper, zinc, silver, gold, uranium, asbestos, potash andcoal mining operations. The work was confined to straight, unobstructed lengths and included steel arched gangways, timberedsections and gunited surfaces as well as raw rock airways.Standard techniques were employed for airflow and pressure dropmeasurements and a photoprofiling method was used to characterizethe airways. A graph is constructed showing the theoreticalrelationship between friction factor and surface roughness forvarious nominal sizes of airway, with the experimental data fromthe present study super-imposed.
