The guerilla war waged between the IRA and the crown forces between 1919 and 1921 was a pivotal episode in the modern history of Ireland. This book addresses the War of Independence from a new perspective by focusing on the attitude of a powerful social elite: the Catholic clergy. The close relationship between Irish nationalism and Catholicism was put to the test when a pugnacious new republicanism emerged after the 1916 Easter rising. When the IRA and the crown forces became involved in a guerilla war between 1919 and 1921, priests had to define their position anew. Using a wealth of source material, much of it newly available, this book assesses the clergy’s response to political violence. It describes how the image of shared victimhood at the hands of the British helped to contain tensions between the clergy and the republican movement, and shows how the links between Catholicism and Irish nationalism were sustained.

"Lewis struck me as the most thoroughly converted man I ever met," observes Walter Hooper in the preface to this collection of essays by C.S. Lewis. "His whole vision of life was such that the natural and the supernatural seemed inseparably combined. "It is precisely this pervasive Christianity which is demonstrated in the forty-eight essays comprising God in the Dock. Here Lewis addresses himself both to theological questions and to those which Hooper terms "semi-theological," or ethical. But whether he is discussing "Evil and God," "Miracles," "The Decline of Religion," or "The Humanitarian Theory of Punishment," his insight and observations are thoroughly and profoundly Christian. Drawn from a variety of sources, the essays were designed to meet a variety of needs, and among other accomplishments they serve to illustrate the many different angles from which we are able to view the Christian religion. They range from relatively popular pieces written for newspapers to more learned defenses of the faith which first appeared in The Socratic Digest. Characterized by Lewis's honesty and realism, his insight and conviction, and above all his thoroughgoing commitments to Christianity, these essays make God in the Dock very much a book for our time.--Amazon.com.

Many Christians view the Ten Commandments as laws they are forced to obey in order to stay on God's good side. In her book His Loving Law, Our Lasting Legacy, Jani Ortlund invites readers to look at the Ten Commandments from a different perspective. Ortlund urges believers to recognize the Ten Commandments as a mirror, reflecting our need for God's cleansing and forgiveness. Throughout the book, each commandment is presented not as another rule to follow, but as an invitation to experience more of God's love. As readers grasp this knowledge, they are able to experience true freedom in Christ. They will begin to understand how embracing God's laws and passing them along to future generations offers a needy world a glimpse of the truth of God's love.

You know them. But do you understand them? The Ten Commandments have become so familiar to us that we don't think about what they actually mean. They've been used by Christians throughout history as the basis for worship, confessions, prayer, even civil law. Are these ancient words still relevant for us today? Their outward simplicity hides their inward complexity. Jesus himself sums up the entire law in a pair of commandments: Love God with all your heart, mind, and strength, and love your neighbor as yourself. Peter Leithart re-introduces the Ten Commandments. He shows us how they address every arena of human life, giving us a portrait of life under the lordship of Jesus, who is the heart and soul of the commandments.

It isn't very politically correct to say America is a Christian nation. However, the Founding Fathers were Christians and their core convictions were the bedrock upon which this country was built. These principles include the belief that as divine creations of God, we are all equal before the law, each citizen has intrinsic worth and value above any government, and our rights are endowed onto us by our Creator. These beliefs are not politically correct. Political correctness is an extension of cultural Marxism that seeks to remove every aspect of God and religion from American public life, including how we are governed. If they are successful, and they have been very successful so far, we lose what made America great in the first place. Our concept of the rule of law disappears, and the elite play by different rules than the rest of us. The belief that our rights come from God is removed. Our rights then can be twisted, manipulated, or stripped from us for political expediency. Worst of all, the divine nature of the creation of mankind with an immortal soul is gone. They can then do whatever they want. With no God, there is no objective right, wrong, good, or evil. The ends justify the means, and the perpetrators can execute their evils with a clean conscience because there is no sin. Cultural Marxism has been a powerful force in American culture for almost a century, shaping institutions such as school, family, and government. In the 1920s and during World War II, socialist ideas that originated at the Frankfurt School, also known as the Institute for Social Research, began to seep into the social fabric of the US. As the cultural Marxist movement gained power, the reach of the federal government expanded, and the basic value of each individual citizen was diminished. The role of the Judeo-Christian belief system, which emphasizes absolute truth and the dignity of the individual, has been ignored""with disastrous consequences. Using the Ten Commandments and the Bill of Rights, author Joe Gilbert lays out the relationship God intended family, government, and individuals to have with each other and guides readers to a renewed hope and vision of American ideals shaped by objective biblical truth. Fans of Glenn Beck and Mark Levin will find Of Faith and Freedom a useful companion in the fight against the malevolent social forces that have so negatively influenced America.

2011 marks the 400th anniversary of the publication of the King James' Bible and will see a great deal of celebration and comment about the impact of the Bible on British culture. Much of the story is well-known, such as the Bible's seminal influence on British language and literature, but one aspect - the influence of the Bible on English politics - is largely unknown or ignored. Moreover, when it is not ignored, the Bible's influence on politics is treated as that from which we have escaped, in order that we may enjoy our current freedoms, rather than something that contributed positively to political thought or history. This is misleading. FREEDOM AND ORDER seeks to inform people of the Bible's critical and positive influence on politics in Britain throughout modern history.

The time is the late 1940s. The place is India on the eve of independence. A history professor and his wife -- Ivar and Maren Lagerstrom -- arrive at a mission college in the southeastern town of Chinnapur. We follow Ivar and Maren as they learn to negotiate Indian society and as they endure trials of weather and disease. But graver crises are coming. Chinnapur is quickly becoming a haven for refugees. When the communist town chairman foments a riot of Koya tribesmen against the influx, a slaughter begins and throws the town into chaos. Robert Paul Roth has created a human-interest tale in which characters under duress become vehicles for significant social and political comment. Offering more than political commentary or local color, however, Freedom at Last reveals the irony of small-town life in uncertain times. Brimming with compelling characters, this novel brings readers close to ambiguities in both missionary activity and political empire.

A Book about Current Events in Light of Apocalyptic Trumpets Trumpets were signaling devices in ancient Israel, and a metaphorical and amazing message is hidden in them for the modern human being. The relationship between freedom and responsibility is a very current topic. Who has the authority to define the limits of freedom and responsibility? Which entity has the authority to decide who has the right to access freedoms? The forces of evil, including the Antichrist, aim to take the hold of this authority by deception. The great controversy between light and darkness concentrates on these issues, and it is a battle for our mindset and attitudes. Jesus Christ will have victory in the end. However, it is important to know the means of the hoax of Satan and the Antichrist, so that we would not be deceived. A global medical deception is part of the hoax. Liberty of conscience, not totalitarianism, is at the heart of God’s mindset and government. The interpretation of the trumpets has a long tradition. This book continues the tradition by concentrating on the fifth and the sixth trumpet. Often in Protestantism the events of the fifth and the sixth trumpet are either situated into the past (so called traditional interpretation in Adventism) or they are seen to reach until the present time. In this book, we unite the two views and think that the trumpets are repeated in history. We aim to let the Bible interpret itself. Both global deception and freedom of conscience are issues which are grounded on God’s Word. The book is a self-published work, and it contains 259 pages.
