This department, with its limited organization, encountered the menace with all available means at its com mand, at a corresponding and greatly increased expense to the state. The fire season of 1920 was below the average. The following summary is submitted of forest fires sup pressed by this department, as well as those extinguished by other protective agencies, for the years 1919 and 1920.
