Excerpt from Fifty-Seventh Annual Report of the Registrar-General of Births, Deaths, and Marriages in England, 1894 Developmental Diseases. 50 deaths, or 1462 per million of the population, were returned as due to developmental diseases. TO old age 24, 517 deaths were referred; the mortality thus returned was equal to 816 per million living, and showed a further decline from the rates in recent years. Premature birth was the assigned cause of deaths, or 17 79 per 1000 children born. From the year 1884 down to the end of 1893 there had been a continuous increase in the mortality from premature birth, but in 1894 the proportion showed a decline, and was below that recorded in either of the three preceding years.
