DOWNLOAD EBOOKExcerpt from The Trial at Large of Her Majesty Caroline Amelia Elizabeth, Queen of Great Britain, in the House of Lords, on Charges of Adulterous Intercourse, Vol. 1 of 2: Containing a Full and Accurate Detail of the Evidence of the Witnesses, the Speeches of Counsel, and All Other Proceedings in This Extraordinary Trial; Containing the Evidence in Support of the Charges The extraordinary importance of the subject, and the great mass of materials out of which it was necessary to select, will, we trust, be our sufficient apology with the public, as well for the length to which our history of the proceedings'against Her Majesty, the Queen, has extended, as for the late ness of its completion. With all the labour and attention which it has been in our power to bestow, and which judicious compression especially re quires, we have found it no easy task to keep the superabundant materials furnished by this unpre[ cedented trial, within those reasonable limits to which it was indispensible that we should confine them; having regard to the necessary fulness and perspicuity of all the essential points of the detail. In presenting the reader, as is customary in Pre faces and Introductions, with a bill-of-fare of the entertainment which is to be laid before him, we conceive the nature of the transactions recorded in this work, will be better illustrated by considering them as connected with former circumstances, in the life of her majesty, by which we think they have been principally occasioned.
