DOWNLOAD EBOOKAn experimental and theoretical study has been undertaken which considers large deflections of a light arch under the action of a radial centrally applied load. The arch has a circular span and the ends of the arch are built in. Symmetrical and asymmetrical buckling is considered• Experiments are described in which a variety of arch dimensions are considered, and the results are compared with those given by two recent theories. These theories are also compared to each other. Discrepancies arise between the experimental considerations and the theoretical predictions. It is suggested that the weight of the arches is responsible for such discrepancies.
