The level of present water resources problems and their complexities makes it necessary that an integrated or total problem solving approach and decission making process is implemented for the management of our catchment-river system. One of the keys to future success of Catchment Management Planning (CMP) is the ability to provide numerous types of customized spatial information in a timely and economical manner. The paper aims to describe the potential use of GIS technology in managing the catchment river system linking to development issues, water and environmental parameters and models. Examples of case studies for Sg. Sintuk, Sg. Rompin and Sg. Melaka catchments are presented. GIS aided Catchment Management Planning is found to be helpful in decision making process as it offers greater insights of the objective analysis towards sustainable development. [Author's abstract].
